1986 GT Pro Performer

this was my bro's bike. he bought it brand new but sold it around 88/89 for dirt cheap and my dad bought it back and cleaned it up and repainted it in late 1992 and replaced all the bearings. he used 1992 pro freestyle tour decals... my brother also replaced the white gt mags with araya rims and i cant remember what kind of hubs they are...he did this back around 87/88 i think. this bike was originally day glow pink. the bike shop it was purchased from bought a day glow pink frame set and built it into a complete bike, which my brother bought. this frame is missing a number in the serial number. it should have a 6 after the 8.
EDIT:
this bike has now been fully restored. pics updated, parts list added.

Re: 1986 GT Pro Performer

You should restore it, that is a really nice looking frame.
A pink/white color scheme would look very good I think.

Re: 1986 GT Pro Performer

Beautiful bike. I have the same one but in pristine survivor condition. It is in the museum posted as b-rad's bike, but I just recently purchased.

Mine has a gyro and I've seen them on other '86's as well. The catalog pics plus the majority of survivor bikes here in museum have no gyro. In that pic of your bro I can not tell for sure that there is one. You would know best if it came with a gyro, plus you listed it as being restored. Do you know for sure that his bike had a gyro stock? There is a blue '86 posted in museum by GTalltheway that has the same un-stamped gyro as I do and he lists it as stock. He say's he received the bike brand new in '86.

Re: 1986 GT Pro Performer

this bike was built by the bike shop, you could not buy a day glow pink bike complete in 86, just as a frame and fork. the bike shop bought the frame/fork and built it up and put it on the floor for sale. it was originally built with a rotor not a gyro. some 86's had no gyro some did. just depends what time of the year they were built. i dislike rotor's so i went with a gyro instead

P.S. just a FYI, b-rad's bike is just pink not day glow pink.

Re: 1986 GT Pro Performer

Oh that's a daglow pictured above?. Your right b-rads old bike is basic pink. I thought I'd ask about gyro because there aren't to many pink 86's in museum, plus with a gyro.      The pink and white scheme grabbed me and I had to buy. Mine is in great survivor condition.

Re: 1986 GT Pro Performer

Great bike. I had a 1986 Pro Performer I bought new in 86, and I assembled it myself out of the box. Mine was one that did not come with a Gyro.

It was changed because it was reported by Dyno-Mike as being incorrect. I still see no proof (after reading this entire thread) that it is a 1986 model.
We want to be as accurate as possible here in the museum so if you could please provide some proof that your bike is a 1986 it will be corrected.

Still searching for my missing bikes from BITD. 1979 Blue Max serial: CI9 221346 and 1977 Webco serial: 42667. Both were last seen at Spoke and Sport Bicycles in Spokane, WA around 1984. $600 reward if found!!

Re: 1986 GT Pro Performer

what proof do you need? check out Dyno-Mike's own thread on 86's and it is explained.

i still remember taking pics of the frame BEFORE i restored it because of the odd serial, guess who i PMed for the info?
DYNO-MIKE!

serial should have 8 numbers, 4 for the date and 4 for the production number. frame only has 7. and there are others that are the
same way...acuzerfdw had one also. not to mention this is not a frame i bought it has been in the family since new and i know when
it was purchased and where and by who.
