1996 Mongoose Expert Pro

1997 Mongoose Expert Pro that I built as sort of a retro tribute to the 84' I had as a kid. Thanks for looking!

Parts list?!

Re: 1996 Mongoose Expert Pro

Nice ride, but I believe that its a '94 Expert Comp. Judging by the right hand cable routing and the 1" threaded fork. Awesome deep blue finish!

Re: 1996 Mongoose Expert Pro

Thanks for the compliment! But this one was all original when I got it, with all the original decals and parts. Definately an Expert Pro model. It's also a 97'.

Re: 1996 Mongoose Expert Pro

In '97 Mongoose had already converted their bikes to an 1-1/8" threadless fork. How did ya convert it back to an 1"?? Check this Bikepedia link: http://bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpec … ;Type=bike

Re: 1996 Mongoose Expert Pro

I also like the deep blue finish!

I'm looking for the following frames, frame & forks or completes by BMX products:
MotoTrac (nickle or chrome), Racer-X or a Super-X (with the double gussets).
Thanks wink
I'm also johnng23604 at "Retro-goose", "VintageBMX" & "RADbmx"

Well, Everything looks to be correct by your link. My decals were all original and the seat tube decal said double-butted Tange chromoly. But as far as the fork goes, mine are original 1 inch threaded. Maybe Mongoose still had some 1 inch head-tubes laying around? Wouldn't be the first time a company goofed.

Thanks for the compliments guys! smile

Re: 1996 Mongoose Expert Pro

Or it was simply a carry over from years previous... 1996 was the first year for the 1-1/8 fork on their Expert model, you can look at mine if youd like. Im just trying to help you correctly list your bike in the museum, thats all. Nice restoration, i like the retro look.

Re: 1996 Mongoose Expert Pro

My 96 Expert Pro is threadless. FWIW.

Nice job on the bike, for sure. Regardless of the year!

Here's a pic. OG including chain guard. Just missing the front reflector.

Whenever someone says, "I'm not book smart, but I'm street smart," all I hear is, "I'm not real smart, but I'm imaginary smart."

No problem, I appreciate the info smile But yea, it's hard to tell for sure what happened here. Companies often did some whacky things during production. Like u said it could be a carry over, or it could just be that they used an earlier head-tube from old stock. Both scenarios were common to happen with bike companies. The bb is stamped 97' though, so I think I have to list it to whatever the serial states. And that chrome one is awesome! That's what I was originally looking for, one in chrome. But eventually if this gets too scuffed up I'll just have it chromed. Thanks again for the info/compliments!

Re: 1996 Mongoose Expert Pro

I just bought a 96 expert pro from ebay, still waiting for delivery.  I was also wanting to retro build it to an 84 expert.  Mine is chrome and from the pictures the decals look to be in really good shape so I hate to rip them off if they are really nice.  But......I always wanted an 84 Mongoose and spending $50 on a decal set is the cheapest route I can take to build my look alike ride I always wanted.
