1979 Repco Monoshock

The coolest kids in Australia had these in the 1970s

Here is my 1979 Repco Monoshock. I was told it was a 1977 model, but the serial number suggests it is actually a 1979.

I purchased the bike in completely run down condition, disassembled it, had it soda blasted and then painted back up in black.

I've added some slightly more modern cranks and will be running Araya 7x rims, again, slightly newer than the bike itself. The plan is to keep it as a bike I can ride around the pits and just have some fun with, rather than keep it stored or restore it to a period correct condition. I was originally thinking about building it up to race in the Retro BMX series, but the tiny top tube length and massive weight of the frame made it a pretty horrible bike to race around on.

I wanted one of these so badly as a kid, and am stoaked to finally have one to cruise around on.

Will try to keep this updated as I finish the build.

Cheers mate,

Your Moto1 is a very nice ride! I have a guy interested in buying this one now, I wasnt super keep to sell, but he sounds like a really genuine guy who plans to rebuild it better than I can, so if he has something cool to swap, espesc parts for my GT, he may be in luck!

Re: 1979 Repco Monoshock

I'm starting to wish I'd kept mine, thats when I made the transition to BMX. Like an old unwanted toy it was.
