the post has an example for bullseye hubs on 7x arayas listed as;

Bullseye Hubs with Araya 7x (single wall rim), 3x pattern
Front 188mm
Rear 186mm

i found that to be incorrect using my measurements

i entered all my calculations of measuring the hubs and using the ERD for 7x araya that is provided on thread or side thread and came up with 191mm spokes on rear and 190.3 on front

bullseye rear hub (i have a thin washer between lock collar and bearing)
7x ERD 394 (provided in thread)
42mm flange diameter
108.5mm O.L.D.
28.75mm center to flange center on Drive side (25.5mm outside to flange center)

94mm O.L.D.

Re: Spoke Length Database For Wheel Builders!

Ok. Who wants to double check me on this.
394 ERD 7x 48h arrays rims
Front hub
-63mm flange diameter
-93mm outside nuts
-14.5mm nut to center flange
-32mm flange to center of hub

What's my spoke length? I got 177.8mm

Re: Spoke Length Database For Wheel Builders!

Hub: 1st Gen GT Race Lace (Low Flange 1984)
Rims: Ukai Speedlines (1984)
Spokes: 2mm Straight Gauge Stainless
Lace: 4X Front & Rear
Spoke Length:
194mm Rear
195mm Front
Tension 22 to 24 (on Park TM1, or 86 - 107 KG of force)

I built both wheels with 195mm spokes.  If Buying one length spoke, get 194s, 195s just a hair long on the back wheel, tip of spoke flush with inside end of nipple.

Your numbers are correct, but please mention what kind of hub/rim combo you're building to help others.

Re: Spoke Length Database For Wheel Builders!

For most 20” rim/hub sets 3x will be 184mm and 4x will be 194mm high or low flange!

Re: Spoke Length Database For Wheel Builders!

I’m in the process of replacing the rusty spokes on my 20” pro class wheels using the same Suzue hubs. The fronts are 196mm and rears  are 194mm. Nipples are 12mm. I ordered everything the same except the nipple length. Instead of the shorter originals, I got 16mm. Will this be an issue as far as spoke length?

Well I just remeasured to confirm. And I was wrong. Seems like the original rear length is 192?  Will 2mm make a difference?

Re: Spoke Length Database For Wheel Builders!

Nipple length has nothing to do with spoke length. You can use any length nipple, just depends on what your expectations of spoke support is (strength of the wheel), weight, and aesthetics.

Re: Spoke Length Database For Wheel Builders!

Update. I relaced  them 4 cross and all
Is good. I don’t know why I just assumed all 36h rims/hubs were laced 3cross. But looking at my front wheel that I haven’t taken apart yet, they came 4 cross with no spokes crossing under. https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/41986/f02f9d3e-8f1d-4e42-9d17-99b277ae32195eb595e6ce.jpeg

Re: Spoke Length Database For Wheel Builders!

187mm 3 cross front and rear.

Front came out to 186.7mm, and the rear came out to 187.6mm

Online info I found states the ERD of those hoops is 390mm.

You bet. I just so happened to have measured out this same hubset last week and had my notes with me and a few minutes of spare time. Good luck, and be sure to share your built wheels when done! smile
