Re: Spoke Length Database For Wheel Builders!
Not sure about standard measurement but I just built a set of high flange Normandy to Z's and it took 182mm spokes that were almost too short. I would try 184s

Re: Spoke Length Database For Wheel Builders!
Great thread Marcus! - Super helpful.
That GT Coaster hub is crazy!
-----
Anyone know what size spokes to use for Sunshine Sealed hubs - going to Araya 7x's?
They're not quite high Flange, and they're slightly taller than most Low Flange hubs - definitely bigger than bullseyes.

Re: Spoke Length Database For Wheel Builders!
To figure out spoke lengths for any rim/hub combo google wheelsmith and you should be able to find a link where you can get all the info you need. I worked in shops for years in so-cal and we had a wheelsmith calculator and it had the directions on how to take all the proper measurements and input them and come up with the proper spoke lenght. It sounds kinda involved but it was really kinda easy:P

Thank you! That's exactly the kind of info we need. Not knocking the other contributions that point us to a link at another site (for measurements), but the idea of this post is to provide proven spoke length combination's that we can list right here. We're trying to save someone else the trouble of taking the measurements (in possibly the wrong manner) and wasting money (on the wrong length of spoke) and time in finding out the hard way. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread thus far! Please, let's keep it going.

Marcus , you should add Mike's detailed list to the very 1st post on the thread - along with your combos, for easy reference.
And as the answers keep rolling in - keep them all listed in the beginning.
Great thread!

Why isn`t this post being made into a "sticky"? If not, all this valuable info will soon be buried.

Re: Spoke Length Database For Wheel Builders!
After seeing so much material (NEEDED!) on wheel building - and seeing videos of a dude lacing/truing a wheel in 15mins, I thought I had it fine when coming to do my first lace job. Critical moment when I find that I figured one calculation wrong and ended up with spokes 2mm too long. I am doing 48s 4 cross with 187mm and even though I'll more than likely have this sorted before it gets replied to - it'd be good to know if you could simply build the wheel 5x and pull the spokes in a couple of mm by doing so. Makes sense in theory, but after checking hours of google combinations, i'm stuck. If someone can't help me they might just save another from the same guesswork I have just been through. BTW: Wheel building is fun!! I found this link useful when needing an easy no confusing guide also. http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/sportscotland/airtight/bmx/tech_tips/index.shtml

Re: Spoke Length Database For Wheel Builders!
Just came across this and think it can be built into a very helpful reference.
For all those with suggestions for existing databases, I have not used any of them but I do thing a database that was specific to OUR interest would be MUCH more helpful.
Keep this one alive.

Re: Spoke Length Database For Wheel Builders!
Why not just post the actual measurements of hubs and rims......instead of posting combos and length needed......there are too many possible combos.
So if you make a spreadsheet of hub measurements and rim dimensions, you can use one of the many free calculators online to get the length of spokes needed for your particular combo and cross lacing you intend to use.
eventually we could get most popular rims and hubs documented for OS bmx and not ever need to guess again. I think this is easier than trying to list out every possible combo.
