1984 Skyway T/A

My orignal 4-84 Skyway TA. The last picture is me on the bike in 1985.

I cant believe I got it back. This is my original 4-84 Skyway TA. I bought the parts new in 1984 from Waldorf Cycle in Waldorf MD. It has Vector bars, 185 Redline flights, Proclass rims with sealed GT hubs. It has a GT epoch headset, seatclamp and Hutch 2/1 head stem with a SST dirt skirt.
I sold this bike in 1988/89 and I finally bought the bike back. It was hanging in his mom’s basement for 20+ years. He rode it some but not much, it is almost exactly the same when I sold it in the late 80's. My grandparents bought me the frame, forks and bars and they are no longer with me. My parents and I bought the rest. John Redmond who owned Waldorf cycle sold me the bike and Floyd ( the guy in the wheelchair) laced up the hubs. A restoration is planned for the bike. Everything white will be re-powder coated. A GT seat and seatpost will be installed. A new brake cable and SR speedtrap peddles will be installed. A NOS Haro or Dyno numberplate will be installed like the ones I used back in the day.
Its not often in life when you can get something like this back. It will be restored and it will never leave my life again. Unless the Smithsonian starts a BMX museum it wont be going anywhere.

Re: 1984 Skyway T/A

I had my white 85 stolen from me back in the day. When I bought my chrome T/A from a member on this site I was elated, I've since bought two more in white. You must be even happier to get your original back, that's awesome. Good luck with the restore.

Wanted: Tange or Hatta anno blue headset.

Re: 1984 Skyway T/A

Thanks. I was floored to actually get it back. It was on ebay last year and sold in England but the guy was not selling overseas and since then it was forgotten again in his moms basement. I still cant belive its back after all those years. It wont be going anywhere ever again. I am gonna restore it so it looks like it did when I bought it. Miracles happen every day.

Re: 1984 Skyway T/A

Yeah actually I did. I actually worked there for a few years. I was 14 and 15 living the dream. Racing and working at the bike shop. Funny I acutally remember the Raliegh sign out front. The building is still there, they sell safe's and trike motorcycles. Whats up with that?????  I got the 20601 too, a dorf zip code...now they have a 02,03 and 04....you would not even recgonize the town, it just aint the same....

sweeet ride!  you are so lucky to be able to get this back!  if you do change some stuff out, pack the original parts in a box - you can't ever replace those.

The only stuff getting changed is the wore out stuff and its being replaced with NOS stuff. l will get it powdered in white and it will be ridden, not hard but cruizing will be done. I just want it to be as shiney as it was when I bought it. Just bought my Park repair stand so I can assemble it properly and safely, not on the floor. I have a plan, next its off to Chip. A short 3 hr drive......

Re: 1984 Skyway T/A

Now this is a cool story. Nice bike and congrats on getting it back!

You can't put a price on peace of mind.

This too shall pass.

The world went and got itself in a big damn hurry.
