Re: lets see your schwinn predators

Just joined up today while looking for info on my 85 Predator Streetwise. All I have left of the original bike is the frame that I foolishly painted over the black chrome not just once but twice.  I also added a 85 almost complete and 86 Predator frame and fork this afternoon.

Recently picked this up on CL for $60.... 1985 Free Form BG.

Question... it has Redstone mags, which were stock on some Schwinn Predators. Is there any way they would have been stock on this particular year and model? Everything else appears to original except tires, chain, and break cable. Trying to determine what else might not be (as far as main parts are concerned). Appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Re: lets see your schwinn predators

Nice, mcman... always liked that style of font, it just stood out in a totally 90s kinda way cool

This been sitting in my closet for a few years waiting, but I couldn't resist anymore and finally built it up a few weeks ago.  I still have some things I'm changing around on it, but it's close.  I have some better, lighter wheels for it, I just have to lace em up, and the star nut doesn't work right so I can't get the headset tight enough.  So it's rough, but rideable, and I already rode it pretty hard a few times with no major issues.  A couple different parts and some tweaking here and there and it should be awesome.

And yeah, I know the paint is thrashed, but MY BLOOD is on this bike.  Literally... last time I installed cranks 15 years ago I dang near took the tip of my thumb off when the wrench slipped.  It was cold out that day, and my hands were basically numb anyway, so I dribbled a few drops on the chain/seat stays before I realized what happened.  I probably won't even wash it yikes (sacrileige around here I know)

That's bad. I like the colors.

Actually those pads are the 85-86 era design. The one at the very top is 87 design I believe. You can tell the difference in the script. Just slightly.

They're actually pretty easily obtainable between here and eBay. The only difficult ones to find are the black set. The black frame pad has a little cut in it otherwise it would be mint. The black bar pad and stem pad are NOS mint. I'm always on the hunt for a mint black frame pad. One day I will either make a display case or get an old Oakley case to display all of my better parts and pads. One day.
