1998 Robinson Pro XL

"I dub thee...'American Beauty'!"

SOLD -- DISREGARD LAST LINES OF DESCRIPTION!!!
This is my baby.  Long, lean, and MEEEEEAN.  Nicest beads in the universe.  She may not have the Chris King headset and Profile Cassette hubs (yet), but I wouldn't change anything else:
- '98 polished Pro XL frame with some wicked tt decals I haven't seen anywhere else
- Robinson chromoly forks
- Forged aluminum CPI 180mm 3-piece cranks, stamped ROBINSON (yea, you know the ones) w/ Robinson 44t gear
- Robinson seatpost clamp (the cool single bolt design)
- GT seatpost
- DK 4-piece bars w/ DK Vise Grips
- DK XXL stem
- Dia Compe Aheadset
- USA-made Sun 36 hole BFRs w/ sealed DK hubs (you get the idea; I pillaged a Legend)
- Tioga rainbow logo Comp IIIs (staggered)
- S&M platform pedals
- Shimano DX V-brakes
- GT seat w/ chromoly rails

She's the purtiest bike I've ever seen, and she stays with me.  Period.

Re: 1998 Robinson Pro XL

Looks great!
A '97 Pro was the first bike I put together when I got into this hobby.  Still one of my best riding bikes.

Re: 1998 Robinson Pro XL

@Ripper88 - Wussup, neighbor!  Actually I can. wink While old Robinsons are definitely awesome and historical, the old stuff just can't compare with the practicality of newer geometry and technology.  In the coming days you'll see some of my other stuff, and you'll get a better picture of what I'm into:  Old USA-made brands done the right way in the 90s.  Like MiniZ, I'm a mid school convert.

Re: 1998 Robinson Pro XL

Yeah man i have a 95 SST that I love and im thankful I can ride it fairly hard without have to be super worried about breaking something thats gonna cost 500 dollars. I do like your bike though, what do you think it weighs?

Re: 1998 Robinson Pro XL

Thanks for the compliment on the cranks.  I had been wanting a set for years, and when came across a Robbie frame on CL that included the cranks, gear, Robbie forks, XL stem, and seatpost clamp, and a Cane Creek headset for $100, the deal was done!

Believe it or not, I just weighed it on the good ol' bathroom scale, and she came out to 26lbs!  I'm not sure what some other Museum members mean when they say their Pro XLs "weigh next to nothing", but I might have to put her fat a$$ on a diet! lol

You coming to the lakefront on the 10th?

Re: 1998 Robinson Pro XL

Depends on the parts, condition, and -- most importantly -- what it's worth to you.  Mine is sort of a conglomeration of three bikes:  Frame, seatpost, and seatpost clamp were around $100 used; bars, wheels, tires, seat, and brakes were taken off a DK Legend I bought new and used to own that I paid about $400 for; forks and cranks came with a Pro XL f/f I bought for $110 used.  Those numbers don't necessarily add up to what one should pay for a similar bike, but to me, it's worth a whole lot more than that.

Besides, if he's your friend, he should give you a "friendly" discount. cool

My Power Series is also 26lbs! I was surprised it was that heavy hence I was trying to make it light as I could have at the time I was building it.

Still we sleepwalk off to work, While our nervous systems jerk. Pretending not to notice, How history had forebode us. With the green house in effect, Our environment was wrecked. Re: 1998 Robinson Pro XL

Interesting.  I'm not worried about cutting weight 'cause I hardly ever ride her (I'm always riding a cruiser these days -- when you're older, you'll understand!), but when I build my other Pro XL, I'll probably try to shave some weight just to see what happens. cool
