The "Overseas Shipping does not SUCK " tutorial...

Overseas shipping has always been a pain in the ASS for most. One of the main reasons most don't ship overseas is because of strict size restrictions and high shipping rates. (even though buyers pay shipping)

I always feel bad when I see sellers state that they don't ship overseas so I make it a mission to always ship when feasible.

The maximum size limit for rectangular-shaped parcels of 42 inches in maximum length and 79 inches in maximum length and girth combined applies to all countries except as follows:

1. Maximum length and girth combined: 108 inches.
Canada
Hong Kong

2. Maximum length: 60 inches
Maximum length and girth combined: 108 inches.
Andorra
Macao
Austria
Malta
Azerbaijan
Marshall Islands, Republic of the
Belgium
Micronesia, Federated States of
Denmark

Just last week, I was in the position of having to ship 2 Floval Flyers frame sets, a Kashimax seat, GT mini bars, Hutch # plate and 2 pad sets to Australia. Shipping 3 separate boxes to 3 different Aus members would have been a total nightmare for me...not to mention an expensive purchase for each member (after shipping) an easy $250+ combines

Lucky for me, the frame sets and its parts were going to a few members who happen to be friends. There was no way in Hell I was going to be able to ship everything in 1 box due to its size. After a few games of emails tag, we came up with a solution.

I call this tutorial.. "Shipping overseas doesn NOT suck "....anymore big_smile

Sweet tutorial, AUS seems to be more strict than most with the max being 79".  You definitely have to get creative!

Re: The "Overseas Shipping does not SUCK " tutorial...

I shipped some Haro cranks to Flylo in Australia. I originally packed them in a small box of my own.....USPS shipping was 45.00!! I was shocked and so was he. I was able to get them into a small flat rate box. Shipping was just under 15.00 in their box...what a difference. I shipped them on the 17th and on the 22nd he received them.....flawless transaction.

Nicely done.

However. I still don't ship overseas. I'm in the sticks and ain't got time to go to the PO or UPS and dicaround with the paper work.

But kudos on the packjob dude.

Re: The "Overseas Shipping does not SUCK " tutorial...

I still would not feel safe sending a $500+ frame that way ...
I would rather spend the extra time and money to know its enclosed in a box where nobody can see it ...
BUT if the buyers were cool with it , they would have to hold some responsibilty if it was damaged ...

I just shipped a f/f too the neathers. I shrinked rapped it . Then built the box around it. I had to give the buyer a refund on the shipping cost. That was cool with me. Not here to make a buck. I am here to share the love of the one thing that WE all used to do,And what I still do.

Tell me about it. It was an estimate $2500 in parts in that bundle.

I hesitated to start the process but the buyers insisted that it was going to be OK big_smile

here's the thing that people don't get.....most of us in the boonies can get PO pick up through PP if you have a verified account. If not you have to take planes, trains and, automobiles to get it to you.

And Aussies think they got it bad....

Re: The "Overseas Shipping does not SUCK " tutorial...

good thread right here, this is how i pack my frames in and out of australia, ive also recieved a dozen or so frames wrapped like this from some good guys in the usa. never had damage to the frame/parts and brings the shipping cost down too.
thanks for posting this, hope it will encourage some that dont post outside lower 48 to do so.

The other thing too is that when shipping a 24" frame, you just about HAVE to do it that way.

Re: The "Overseas Shipping does not SUCK " tutorial...

We all appreciate the effort that some US members go to. I've sent frames all over like this and never had a problem. I use brown paper-backed bubble wrap and you cannot see into the package at all.
Some of the boxed items I've seen look far worse than this.

Re: The "Overseas Shipping does not SUCK " tutorial...

it might end up at the top of the skid and not the bottom being irregular shaped.. I would think it being different shaped the shippers would take better care with it, and not be throwing it around to bust the wrap open...
