1999 Dyno Detour

99 Dyno Detour first resto project!

I had to do it! Im the old school bmx kid ,my first bmx was an old diamondback viper around 82 i think ,in 84 my parents and I took a trip along the Oregon coast ,on the way back we stopped in Portland where I purchased a Skyway TA frame and fork set.
When I got home I promptly swapped components and started to build my dream bike, when I was finneshed the bike was as Skyway as a bmx could be right down to the tuffs ,tuff pads, freestyle bars and seat clamp, yes I was done!
Then the skateboard was introduced to me as transportation that could fit in my locker and like any other not so swift 15 year old I decided I needed the best, so I sold my pristine TA for $80 to buy a Santa Cruz board and indi trucks, yes it still hurts to think about it!
Now at 39 with 3 kids still boarding but not as agile,BMX fever has set in hard .constantly on the look out for a cool project ive bought 4 bikes in 2 months used of course,to strip down and referb for the kids. the 99 detour  was my first real interesting frame and fork set that I could find as it is slim pickins where I am ,it is almost original but not entirely , rims hubs grips and levers are all of the age but not accurate also the paint is a metallic candy light chestnut  with 4 coats of clear to give it that deep glassy look ( in my eyes it beats the crap out of that big mistake color of brown suggar ...yuk!)im more into the look of an old bike simply because, lets face it the new stuff has far superior performance but lacks the style of the older generations.simple eye candy is what im shooting for ,with decent original components.
My next project is a little different ,I picked up an 05 Haro F3 for $50 ,man what a tank! So a tank it will be, leopard tank to be exact!( cammo is cool on anything) with cruiser bars / seat layed waay back and whitewalls!
Update on the 99 detour ,I have found the original rims/hubs & airbag tires ,now just missing the gt grips and diacompe levers....whoo hooo!

My Father once spoke to me and said "The way you look at your bike is the way I see My children, I look past the imperfections and rough surfaces to the beauty of the finished product."

Looks clean & nicey!!!

I would only change the rims or maybe the wheel-set to a more blink-blink GT set :)

One of the few 1999 DeTours i have seen around.
