1997 Robinson MX

Cool little Robi to add to the collection

Found scouring CL one evening.  Was listed as a frame and fork only without any pictures.  I contacted him because i was interested in the fork for my other Robi project.  Well he sent me a picture and it was a complete bike with the bars taken off.   So i went to check it out, It was pretty beat up, but the kid still had all the bolts for the stem and the handlebars.  Every bearing was dry and loose.  And the fork that I wanted from it was bent at one point but was straightened 98 percent (you cant tell unless you look hard)  but not what i wanted for my other project.  So I decided I would save this one.  Brought it home, repacked all of the bearings, and it rides really good for its age.  All original except the seat, bars, and tires.

Re: 1997 Robinson MX

I just picked up a 1998 Robinson pro xl.  I have wanted one for a couple years now.   They are awesome.  I sure wish they company was still around.  Your bike looks sweet, nice find.

Re: 1997 Robinson MX

Thanks a lot.  Is ur Pro xl aluminum?  thats a badass bike.  I recently scored a 1998 Pro aluminum frame, wish it was an xl though.  Did you get a complete bike?

Re: 1997 Robinson MX

It is a complete bike but it has 4130 tubes.  I did not know they made Al Robi's till I saw yours.  I will be on the lookout for one now.  My chromoly one is light I can not imagine how light yours must be.  When I get it cleaned up I will put it in the Museum.

Re: 1997 Robinson MX

Yea Im suprised that your bike isnt aluminum.  Looks like the other 1998 Pro xl's in the museum are aluminum.  It is ridiculously light, and cool looking because its the typical Robi rear stays, just way bigger.  Funny thing about the aluminum bike is they recalled them because of them breaking too easily. here is a link to what i found out the day after i bought mine:  http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml98/98079.html.:rolleyes:oh well looks like I wont be doing any stairsets just play easy on it.  I called up GT just to make sure it was a recalled one and they confirmed it, but since its been so long they dont do anything about it now.

I tried to add my Alum robi to the museum but since its not complete its in the needs work section.  Should be recieving some parts for it today so I will be able to update it soon.
