Re: 1990 Bonzai

I had one in 91, Again I raced NBL also. Mine was yellow, that's about the only color I ever
seen them in. They were great bikes though. Would love to find another XL. They were
very hard to come by even back then.

Re: 1990 Bonzai

I got one in Raw- just like pictured- mine has a 21.5" top tube.. does that make it an XL?
I need to polish it before I submit it to the museum.  and TNT, yes those are Boss bars.

LoL Yea the frames alone started at $260 Mini and went up to $325 Pro , that was with NO Paint !!!!!

They were expensive but the early ones were high quality frames , i loved mine !!!

Re: 1990 Bonzai

I imagine the price is why I never got one as a kid, but then again it would have been a $100 bucks and I couldn't have gotten one.  I do not know why I was fascinated with these frames.  All I know it after the first time I saw it in the front pages of BMXPlus as a sneak peak I was hooked.  It was probably the name.  I also didn't know they were Aluminum until years later.

I've got a wonderful future behind me.

Re: 1990 Bonzai

I used to work at Bonzai Cycles back in the day When, Burt, Mike, Billy, Ray and all the guys were originals... Back then these frames were going through trials as they were bieng built by hand...
The heat treating was very expensive back in the day and I imagine still is.. But these were great bikes when complete.. We had quite a few team racers... and they were good!! Its a shame it was short lived.. Burt and his ole big Cadillac.... There used to be this cute little blonde there too.. I think her name was Julie??? idk.. But it was good times there. I was only there for about a year.. and moved.. So I had to leave the gang..

Fun Times...
