Basically Schwinn helped Giant update its manufacturing processes and expand production so that it could switch to Giant as its sole supplier of mainstream bikes, but then started looking for ways to undermine what was supposed to be an exclusive partnership by investing in other producers (all of those investments went south). And Giant played the same game from the other side, selling Schwinns under other labels. Concord BMX frames got the modified gussets to distinguish them from Predators, but many of the road bikes were doppelgangers.
I got this information from a Concord dealer who was pissed off at Schwinn over dealership licensing.
