I have a nasty stuck seatpost in a cruiser frame.  I filled the seat tube and what is left of the post up with Transmission Oil and Acetone- 50/50 mix.  So far it has been sitting for 4 days, and no movement.  After a couple of more days, I will try the stem trick.  If not, Plan C is the hot tank.  Plan D is sending it off to the Frame Doc for a shellacing!!!

do stem trick it best

i use hoop bolt on my flat trailer. put fork in hoop bolt first then stem in fork same as useual it stay there locked good i twist and pull at same time with my hand on frame slowly yes hard but less damage to frame that how i got mine off.

if hard to understand i can take pictures of that to show ya how it looks.

Probably not the best solution, but I sawed my post of flush with the frame and stuck a new thinner post in. worked fine.

Yes!

I see you got it out already, but the forks just give you more leverage. It's worked for me on a couple of occasions.

Re: how do i get off seat post without damage redline frame

you could either heat the tube or cool the post. if you are going to re-finish the frame, use a torch to heat it. the other option is to use co2 or nos to get the post really cold.

Re: how do i get off seat post without damage redline frame

i don't think it will be cold enough. you can probably use a can of that compressed air for cleaning computer stuff. just torn it upside down and spray the post. believe me, it comes out really cold.

Take it to a machine shop to get drilled out.  I ended up taking mine there.

this sucks sad sometimes it worked sometimes it not. i left it soaked with 3in1 lube for about 4 hours then it just slide out with my sr stem. left no damage on my redline and seat post.

Re: how do i get off seat post without damage redline frame

well i opened the garage door and started up my stereo
last night i filled the post up w/ penetrating oil and left it sitting so the seatmast was near horizontal, i drained it, the frame was hot, hooked up a dyno stem lol and some 78' schwinn bantam forks and tried to turn it, the first try was no good the stem moved, then on the second try i tightened the stem and success no damage and came out fairly easy, just needed some patience.

i have to add that the bare steel seatpost did not help roll lol

anyone need a 81 goose F/F?

How come nobody mentioned PB Blast? That stuff seems to work wonders for me.But then again I don't think I've ever experienced something as stubborn as your seatpost stuck in the redline frame situation.

Re: how do i get off seat post without damage redline frame

If you dont care about the seat post . Drill a hole through it and use a chunky philips screw driver {just try not to snap the seatpost and make it worse}

Re: how do i get off seat post without damage redline frame

I tried PB on my Sport. I sprayed it everyday for a month. Still wouldnt budge, even in a vice. The post just twisted. Machine shop to drill it out is about my last hope I think,or have them hot tank it. What did that cost you Advan ? Do they just use a 7/8" bit and drill it ? I may be able to do that myself.

Re: how do i get off seat post without damage redline frame

I think it cost @$30.  They used several bits, gradually getting bigger with each bit.  Saved time, effort, and brain cells (no sniffing penetrating fluid for 5 days!).

I'll tell ya what! If acetone and ATF doesn't do the trick after soaking you must have one hell of a fused post.

Re: how do i get off seat post without damage redline frame

The bench vice, PB blaster and a torch worked for me on a 92 GT Interceptor.(Stuck long metal post) It needed a repaint so the torch didn't hurt the frame .

No more media blasting at this time.
