Guys, im on day four, and I have to tell ya, I already feel WAY better, less congested, etc. I feel like im sweating crap out, but I am feeling more energetic already. Im super optimistic now, and am getting excited. This is the first step of my physical makeover, and im feeling pretty good about my chances of succeeding. The key is, if you are going to try and quit, just quit.... dont drag it out.... the sooner you try, the better. Im here for whatever help you need!

I think that's dead on.  One thing to expect....around week 2 or so, you may develop a cough.  It's your lungs dispelling all the crap you have inhaled over the years.  It's literally the crap falling off of the lining of your lungs.  Mine lasted almost a month.  It's not a bad cough, but it was chronic for the duration of that month.

Not everyone experiences this "quitters cough", but it is common.

I also noticed it was around week 2 that i really began to detect the smell of smoke on others.  As a smoker, you really can't smell it.  But once you quit, you can smell stale smoke on smokers.  It's a horrible smell.

Re: Quitting smoking... day one

I have had a couple family members use that electric cigarette.  used it for about 10 days is all....

My entire family smoked except for me.  My dad was a 40+year smoker, my mom a 30+year smoker.  My sis, 25+ year smoker, bro-in-law 25+years smoker.  All have now quit.  Hell, i must have been the only smart one big_smile

Re: Quitting smoking... day one

If you're a smoker here in Mass, you're spending about $300 a month. Thats the cost of the cigs (about 8 bux), fuel, and any dumb impulse buy at the store when you're there (lottery, chips, soda). Good luck Owl.

Yup.  After I quit, I wound up throwing away a bunch of cloths because I just could not wash the smoke out of them.  Funny how you cannot smell such a bad odor until you quit.

How's the quitting going at this point?

I can say now, that I dont think I ever will. I kept doing all the things that would have been triggers for me, drinking coffee, alcohol etc, and it didnt faze me. I just have to always watch myself.

Do you have a treadmill or rollers Owl? When I quit smoking I started running and kinda forced myself through the sickness. It helps to get all the mucas and stuff out.

Re: Quitting smoking... day one

Drink plenty of water, that helps.
Exercise whenever you get the urge to smoke, it will take off the edge.

I quit smoking on August 3, 2007.
Immediately started chewing 4mg Nico gum for 2 years straight.
Then this March decided to start chewing 2mg gum but only 1/2 piece at a time.
I have now quit the gum and have been Nico free for 45 days.
It's a b1tch to quit the gum as well, but the gum did help me stop
the daily ritual of smoking.

Best of luck to all that try to quit
     wink

Re: Quitting smoking... day one

"quitting smoking is easy - i've done it a million times!"  big_smile

that's cool man - keep up the good work.  for me it was mental.  like you said - you just gotta cut off the associations and the triggers that made you want to smoke.  the first couple of weeks are hard.  but once you stop thinking about it - you will be fine.  a lot of it is mental.

congrats to you!

Re: Quitting smoking... day one

Good Luck owl.  I need to quit as well.  Did it for 2+ years then relapsed.  As they say you are one away from a pack a day!  I am emberassed to smoke in public anymore.

I love to smoke while I drive which is the hardest thing for me to shake!  I found that using those disposal plastic toothpicks really help with the phsyco aspect of doing something with you hand and mouth...

My name is Dave!  I am a smoker...  You inspire me Bro keep it up.

Re: Quitting smoking... day one

You're my inspiration then. Sounds like we have a similar history with it from several angles...so boom, I'm setting the date, ordered the Carr book, and just told ten people I'm quitting...

Alcohol was the trigger for me, well one of them the first few times I tired - that and my x-wife.

Been a bit over 10 years for me.

Congrats on your continued success.
