I love these posts...I had no idea. 12 years old when I got it. You can see the grip has a tear in it...yeah...from flying a kite off the handle bars...seriously. Not even my dad who bought it for me really knew what he was getting. This weekend he told me the store gave him 20% off list, so $800 - $160 = $640 back in the day. Same year I got my first snowboard, a wooden Burton Backhill that I still have. 1984 was a good year for me!

Not interested in selling, but thanks for the offers. Time to enjoy it again.

awesome bike !!! and thanks for letting us know they are still out there to be found !!

Re: Just got my 1984 Hutch Pro Star out of my parents' storage area

As a newbie to this site, I posted something last week and was totally made fun of (since I didn't have any pics to post at the time). So nice to get these emails). Thanks for all the comments and suggestions on cleaning it up. Something that I found crazy this weekend was how well the wheels still spin. With the bike upside down, you can spin the front wheel and there's no resistance...it just spins forever...I'm guessing the hubs on this bike were pretty special.

You may have been ridiculed because a lot of people say they have a Pro Star, and they turn out to be Pro Racers. Pro Stars in the condition of yours are SO rare. Maybe a handful have been discovered in the 8+ years ive been in this hobby. You have a gem there.

Wow. Nice bike!

Still searching for my missing bikes from BITD. 1979 Blue Max serial: CI9 221346 and 1977 Webco serial: 42667. Both were last seen at Spoke and Sport Bicycles in Spokane, WA around 1984. $600 reward if found!!

dude, holmes skidded the back tire a bunch, but all the tell-tale signs point to that it wasn't ridden much.

Re: Just got my 1984 Hutch Pro Star out of my parents' storage area

Yeah, the back tire is pretty much gone. Actually my dad was going to let my 5 year old nephew use it and priced out a new rear tire...something like $40 to buy a tire and have it mounted. The store was the place that told him if it was really a Hutch (he didn't have it with him), it was probably collectible. Oh, and the tire is wrecked from sliding it too much in my driveway. Unfortunately, it's never once been on a track...and rarely off of the street. I guess one of the reasons why the crank isn't broken.

well i will raise my offer  to 6500.00 and you should buy those guys at the local bike shop a pizza because of them being honest with you and not trying to weazel it out from ya for pennies on the dollar but just think whenever  you want to buy something like a car or house you can always liquidate a pedal bike and  get a little chunk of change and with a bike like that you can have your cash in hands in less than 48 hours i would think

Re: Just got my 1984 Hutch Pro Star out of my parents' storage area

If it were mine, It would be hanging up on a wall in a gameroom or somewhere inside the house to preserve the current condition. I would not change the tire - leave it as it sits - cleaning it would be like taking metal polish to a rare coin.

This has to be one of the nicest, loaded with all the goodies, survivor, bad a$$ finds to date. Ranks near the top for sure.

Re: Just got my 1984 Hutch Pro Star out of my parents' storage area

Did you add the bike to the Museum?  I will add it to my fav's once you upload it.

Wait a minute...am I dreaming again or is this for real?  A Pro Star complete and near perfect makes an appearance for all to see...just realized it's a nightmare since it's not mine.  $#$#%^*#@%@%

Re: Just got my 1984 Hutch Pro Star out of my parents' storage area

Keep the bike if you don't need the money.  There are so few ORIGINAL PRO STARS around.  That bike on the right day would fetch 6K +.  You see Pro Stars in the collector world BUT they are pieced together NOT the real McCoy.

That my friend is a family heirloom.

Totally awesome.
