1979 Team Rampar

1979 rampar factory team race frame . extremely rare , only 1 of 2 known to be in collectors hands. 100% cro-mo looptail frame

***HAVE SINCE SOLD THIS BIKE LONG AGO TO MEMBER GLYNNYBOY WHO DID A EXCELLENT JOB ON IT - anyone interested in seeing it heres the link http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/bmx_products_inc/52021

this frame was built by bmx products in the chatsworth facility in jan. of 1979  for rampar of america ( huffy ) . these frames were not in production and were only built in a very small number for the 1979 factory racers to use , which consisted of toby henderson and jeff bottema. i am still trying to get an exact number of frames that were built  , but i doubt it was many considering they only had two racers.  as far as i have been able to determine they had no model name for these . although they are similar in appearance to the rare R-9 production models there are some key differences , most notable the fully welded gusset plate. the other frame is in the hands of an australian collector and can be seen at vintagemongoose.com  under the rampar section. mine has a couple OG decals the other is missing though.
great story behind this . a friend of a friend of a friend heard i was into old bmx bikes and asked if i would be interested in one he had. he said he tried to sell it on ebay but didnt get any offers. all he knew is it was an old rampar.  i almost passed on it myself , i offered him $30. for the frame and after a little haggling i ended up trading a specialized hemi mx ( $30. on the list ) complete minus the wheelset for it .  took me about two weeks to finally figure out exactly what i had , and i would definitely like to thank the guys from ozbmx as they have been invaluable in the hunt for info. on this bike. om still researching this and will be updating .

Cool frame! Loop tails I think are the best! My buddy is trying to build his childhood rampar, an R-11 from 78":)

Re: 1979 Team Rampar

im still gathering info on this one. i have seen at least one other and have heard of at least 3 total , and it seems they all surfaced in southern Florida originally .  i may be selling it to a Raleigh guy i know so it can be given the proper respect , and i can finance some of my other projects .

Re: 1979 Team Rampar

I know alot about this frame because I own one! Mine however is the near replica of the complete team bike rode by bottema and henderson. It is candy apple red with original bottema forks, graphite tuff wheels, raleigh bars, pro neck, elina seat, suntour seat clamp, and flight cranks. these frames came in 3 colors red, blue and nickel. They were sold in Raleigh bike shops during the early 80s.  I grew up in illinois and worked at a raleigh shop. We had 3 that we sold. This frame was made by bmx products. It is a jag but with a a cut out for the brake cable in the gussets and braze ons on the top tube. Its a great bike.

Re: 1979 Team Rampar

Nice score, so your's is #3 then of how ever many.......

1 on the vintage mongoose site.
1 complete 1 here in the museum.
1 frame, yours(pitbaldridge).
So like "brevolt" mentions, there's more of them out there and I have 1 too, now!

Keep me in mind "pitbaldridge" if your Raliegh dealer isnt worth the effort, I'm interested in yours too!

So that's 4 frames now!

I'm looking for the following frames, frame & forks or completes by BMX products:
MotoTrac (nickle or chrome), Racer-X or a Super-X (with the double gussets).
Thanks ;)

I think that does make #3 and I got #4.
But mine is team blue and it also has the "T" with the serial number.
I seen this one posted over at retro-goose.
Nice!
