1988 Spalding SPX 2000
1988 Spalding SPX 2000
1988 Spalding SPX2000 BMX
This is a oldschool Spalding SPX 2000 from back in the day. Same company that made all the sports stuff in the 80's.. A kid down the road had one when I was growing up, and I tried everything to get him off it. He never did and moved away the next summer. I've been looking for one ever sence. When I had a chane at this one I jummped on it. Only other one I have ever seen. Same color and decals. Only difrence is he had after market white mags on his and this one has original rims. All parts, paint, and decals are original. I did replace tires, grips, seat, and pedals. First Spalding in the museum..Rare is the word here!!

Re: 1988 Spalding SPX 2000
Thanks.. I wish they would put Spalding in the list of makes, insted of stuffing it in the K-Mart section.. Maybee if a few more get listed.. They were way sweet bikes!

I can only assume the previous owner had short ams and the stem this way brought the bars closer . Now why it's not in the museum well I'll chalk that up to laziness though it will 1 day be cleaned up stem turned around and submitted. I did not notice the frame difference in the 2 but yours does look Akisu style while my frame is ? I did figure it out awhile back but slips my fadeing memory now.

Re: 1988 Spalding SPX 2000
Cool, I had Spalding a f/f leaned up against the shed in the weather. Just thought it was another lowly department store bike. I did notice since seeing this post that the forks are indeed made by Akisu. One could assume that the frame should be as well. It has since been moved into the shed.
Since I'm here, and you're here, doesn't that make it our time?

Re: 1988 Spalding SPX 2000
Dont count out the bike becasuse it came from a dept store.. Thease werer the bikes us every dayk poor kids thrashed day in and day out. They were feild tested and many didnt make the cut, but some were great bike.. Most times its harder to score a offbrand dept store bike then the big namers.. The peolple who had them know how good they realy were.....

Re: 1988 Spalding SPX 2000
The SPX3000 came stock with white mag wheels- they are not after market. Also, these were sold at Sears stores, not K-Mart. (oddly enough, Sears now owns K-Mart.)

Re: 1988 Spalding SPX 2000
thank you for having this posted, I picked one of theses up that was spray bombed red/black that the guy thought was a "Stu Thompson". The cutout in the frame gussett was my detail I couldn't match up. I have it dismantled till I decide how to reconstruct it. I'll post the pieces shortly. From the looks of yours most of it is original except wheels.
sweet find

Re: 1988 Spalding SPX 2000
This was definitely the bike my parent's bought me when they couldn't afford a Haro for me:) Mine had the white mags though. I lived in Chelmsford Mass in the 80's so if anyone's got one now from that area, it might be mine! Sweet bike.
