1980 Fuji Feather Professional
1980 Fuji Feather Professional
Super rare Fuji Feather Pro in red. Only made from 1980-1982.
I found this frame and fork on eBay. (I'm sure someone is going to say, "you out bid me!", lol) I, like a select few, have been searching for a Fuji BMX of any kind to surface. It did. A professional no less.
The frame is nicked up pretty good for being 30 years old, but no dents! The forks are in great shape. It came with the original bottom bracket and spindle, so I just replaced some chewed up parts with NOS and also had to thuroughly clean the bearings and housings in both the BB and headset, That grease was hard tar.
So, for the build I refered to BMX Action! March of 1980 because it has a feather tested, but it is a orange peel, not the professional, to get some information and parts list. Also I just got lucky and stumbled upon www.classicfuji.com which has all the catalogs from 1970 something to 1990 with the complete list of all the bikes for those years and their complete parts list! I used this list to get semi close to the original build.
Here it goes.
Fuji pro frame and forks. Sugino for Fuji Bottom bracket (sealed 37x124) Fuji crank arms. Black copy pedals. Araya 7C's. Diamondback SR seat clamp. Fuji seamless leather seat. Dia Compe 890 front and rear brakes with Dia Compe bent levers (nos). Gold bars (going to replace with DB bars because finding Nitto BMX bars is not easy) and a Sakae stem (original is Sugino similar to forklifters) and AME grips. And the chainwheel is also sugino 44T.
Any questions? feel free to shoot me a pm.

Re: 1980 Fuji Feather Professional
I want to say they were around 22 pounds out of the box minus reflectors and chain guard, which was pretty light at the time. I had the much heavier MX-500.

Re: 1980 Fuji Feather Professional
This particular build is about 22lbs. But the catalog states they were 24lbs. I took it out on the road as soon as it was done and I was very happy with the way it felt under me. Sold, light, forgiving. I did baby it a bit, but I'd have to say, you could feel the quality in this Japanese build. The welds are remarkable. I guess they did some state of the are welds where they welded them from the inside or something. Crazy. The top tube is Oval, not round. Just unique. As much as I am digging this, my wife is pretty PO'd to say the least. So, I might not have this too long, unfortunaly.
