20" Pro XL Racing Bike Weights

Anybody here have a Pro 20" XL bike weighing less than 20lbs? I'm attempting to construct a less than 20lb race bike. Any recomendations as far as parts that can save a significant amount of weight?

Re: 20" Pro XL Racing Bike Weights

Wow, that may be a tall order and still keep the bike safe under the loads a full-sized rider can put on a bike.

Once I was big enough for a pro-sized bike, I needed beefier parts (nothing worse than braking a chain when snapping on the gate, for example).

I think it would be cool.  Perhaps with some titanium and creative use of aluminum it can be done.  Not sure if it would put up with any real riding.

Wow..... that is sick! Is their a parts list avaialable for that bike? I am going to try with an aluminum frame. I know the titanium frame would be lighter by about a pound.

I weigh 230lbs so this has got to be strong as well.

So far I am using a titanium crank spindle, Redline Forklifter bars, and the Bombshell F1 forks to shave weight

Keep the ideas comming!

Re: 20" Pro XL Racing Bike Weights

well Ive got Spin carbon wheels and I had Kovachi build me a set w/ ti spokes and the Kovachi's are lighter and w/ you weighing 230 I'd go w/ spoked wheels w/ 1.75 rims. The Spins were only available in 1.5.

Re: 20" Pro XL Racing Bike Weights

Breakaway are you going to race this bike?
If so mainly concentrate on rotating mass because it's way more critical to going fast & concentrate on keeping it strong.
Lot's of trade-offs with superlight bikes but way cool even if they are less durable for riding.
Keep us updated with the build man.

Re: 20" Pro XL Racing Bike Weights

Why so light? My dad has an aluminum Robinson Pro XL with aluminum forks and bars, Spin CR175 wheels. That sucker is super light, but feels unstable in the air. I like a little bit of weight to my bikes.

Re: 20" Pro XL Racing Bike Weights

well yea, my opinion is that unless you are really good at whatver disciplin you ride, having an ultra light bike is actually not gonna help you much. i think its better to gradually get lighter and lighter rather than drop form a 25-26lb bike to an 18. i dont think i would want an 18lb bike. mine is liek 22-23 or so, and i have ti spokes and ti spindle and folding tires.

THIS IS A 90'S RARE GEM - MR. HOFFMAN, MR. HAWK AND MANY OTHER CELLEBRITIES WOULD BE PROUD TO HAVE THIS BIKE AMONG THEIR COLLECTION.

Re: 20" Pro XL Racing Bike Weights

at 230lbs if you are under 6'3

it makes more sense to lay off the big macs then drop coin to make the bike lighter

Re: 20" Pro XL Racing Bike Weights

Yeah I just cracked my Hemi(I know it was a POS) just pumping and I weigh 210lbs.,so be carefull. But if I changed the cranks and forks on it,it woulda been in the lo 20's.Bummed I cracked it but atleast it didnt break all the way and I didnt get hurt.

But the frame weighed next to nothing and it was an aluminum XL.,fit me good for a 20" and I'm a little over 6'1" and 210lbs.

I dont race so weight doesnt really matter.

Re: 20" Pro XL Racing Bike Weights

I'm a smige under 22 lbs. I could shave off lots with new bars and seat post. ( close to 2.5 lbs) But I like wide bars and these are hi ten steel and my seat post is like 20+ inches long. I have right at $2700 in this.

Re: 20" Pro XL Racing Bike Weights

a pro xl is hard to keep below 20lbs and still be safe to ride for an adult rider. most of them seem to be right over 20lbs. 22-23lbs

Re: 20" Pro XL Racing Bike Weights

yeah, that seems to be pretty true for most of the bmx bikes/frames i have been seeing lately.kind of weird when you think about it, back in 1995 bikes were as light or lighter then they started getting heavier again ? neutral i just always want the lightest i can possibly get something. i think i have a  problem wanting everyhting so light lol smile

Re: 20" Pro XL Racing Bike Weights

yeah i think they got tired of frames breaking. back in the day they were lighter but breaking alot more. im one of those guys who would rather have an extra pound or 2 just to have the piece of mind of being safe.
