1983 Sling Shot Mini

This is one VERY RARE bike!!

Greendale Bicycle Co, made only 2 MINI's, both for family members, not for sale. I acquired this one the second time listed on e-bay didn't sell first time). At that time I had no idea of how RARE it was. Mini includes: the ORIGINAL Wedge, Fastners, Cable & Spring (only one cable due to riders weight). Original Decals were supplied by former FACTORY RIDERS, thanks guys. I had Decals recreated and have sets for sale also. Original finish was great and I had a hard time repowdering it, but am now glad I did (thanks you Steve @ Custom Powder Coating. Fork is Titan Titanium Mini. Main features of bike include: NOS Ukai B Wheels in Red Alloy with NOS Shimano Hubs and Panaracer Red NOS
Tires. Titan Bottom Bracket with Roller Bearings,  Most parts used were NOS, including Hatta MX10 Alloy Red Headset, Dia-Compe Red Tech III Rear Brake Lever and Dia-compe MX1000 Brake with Kool Stop Brake Pads. Cranks are Mint Sugino Maxi-Cross Red 170mm with KKT Lightning Chrome Pedals, and 42T Sugino Chainring w/ NOS Sugino bolts. Has Tuff Neck Red "Tiger Stamped" Stem, Polished Powerlite Power Curve Mini Bars and Mini A'me Tri Bubble Font Grips. Finally, the required Uni Mini Seat with NOS Red Pad and Red tuff Neck Seat Clamp.
Need to correct the narrative above, met with Mark Groendal and his brother Joel 12/11/10 and they filled me in a little about what had been written as history.  They actually only made the one mini I have.  It was not made for their kids as they had none.  It was made expressly for Brandt Hendler a hot shoe racer from Grand Rapids.  His brother Jameson and his father also raced Slingshots, quite successfully.  Mark was the inventor/builder and Joel was the painter.  I am sure they both had lot's of other responsibilities at the company as well, more to come on that later.  Yesterday 12/18/10, I took the bike to Thrifty Acres Indoor BMX track (www.taibmx.com) and met with all the Hendlers.  They were excited to see the old mini.  Brandt informed me, as other riders from BITD had, that the bike was originally Red.  My son Chris wants to redo it as Brandt rode it.  Don't know kind of like it as is.
Anyway, the Hendlers are going to get us some of the old pictures which I will post here or somewhere as they arrive.
2/17/14 Brant Hendler sent  picture of him riding it in Pontiac Silverdome? #107

Re: 1983 Sling Shot Mini

Dion, tell me more, when did you have it and any details about acquiring it.  I like to know everything I can about a bike.  How long did you have it.  I bought it on e-bay from Walker.

Re: 1983 Sling Shot Mini

Should have seeen it when I had it built up with sewups.  Really looked like a toy then.  Neatest thing was meeting and talking with original owner.  If he finds and sends me pictures of it BITD I will definately post here.  Keep checking.  Don

Re: 1983 Sling Shot Mini

Wish I heard a little more about the history of this bike.  Because I owned a mini sling shot with one cable and it was Fluorescent Green special ordered.  If I remember right I got it from Jeff Staubach (Starbach?) who must have been friends with Mark Groendal.  I used to race for Tahoe and a few other teams.  My parents owned Schrimsher's Bike Shop in Michigan City, IN

Ok just posted picture of the original owner racing this bike BITD.  #107 at the time, earned several #1's soon thereafter.

Re: 1983 Sling Shot Mini

My name is JJ Bowman. I was a Slingshot Factory rider racing from 1984-86 on a Slingshot mini along with Brent Walk our team Pro. I raced 9X and 10X on this bike. I just relocated to Grand Rapids and reached out to the new Slingshot owners and will be looking to recreate a new BMX version and a retro. Thank you for preserving this incredible bike. I sold mine to Getaway sports in Battle Creek in 1988. I had other Factory sponsors through out my career including Hutch, CW, and Bandito, but Slingshot and Bandito were hands down the best bikes I rode.
