1984 JMC Racing Darrell Young

My favorite race bike.......I had a chrome one in 84/85 and waas happy to find another.

I was going to replicate my old bike but then decided to build it with the stuff I coiuldn't buy as a 14 year old working at the LBS a few days a week
Original chrome,Needs refinished but I can still enjoy it.
Rare machined bottom bracket shell
DY bars
Tuf Neck stem
Shotgun II (Need JMC seatpost)
MX1000's w/ Tech3
Third gen. Profile cranks in 175mm w/ 130mm BCD spider
Chrome Suzue sealed LF hubs
Early Suntour pedals
Ayaya 7X 1.5's
Tioga Comp IV early label
Izumi chain
Suntour freewheel

Re: 1984 JMC Racing Darrell Young

nicely done. kinda reminds me of my gt for some reason. it's the gold sprocket and profiles i think... they would lok cool being ridden together

Re: 1984 JMC Racing Darrell Young

Thanks...I was going to do all black and chrome,But then was "inspired" by another bike to add the gold for something different.
In the last picture you can see I also had  a UNI on it for a minute.

Beautiful clean build, well done. What's the story with the machined B/B shell never seen one on a DY.

Re: 1984 JMC Racing Darrell Young

I've never heard directly from Jim Melton the story. But in theory is would add strength w/o much additional weight.
I've seen other brands do it on the headtube as well.
From what I have heard,It was a bit labor intensive,Therefore expensive and ultimately not done for very long.
Thanks for the kind words!

Lovely, what is the serial # Gary?

Similar to mine, mine has the machined BB too and was wondering if they are close in numbers.
