Re: Full white Mag RESTORATION - with new brake rub tip

Great tips! Can someone let me know what soft scrub is? Is it just a bathroom cleaner with bleach? We can't get it in the UK, so I'm trying to find it's equivalent. Thanks.cool

Re: Full white Mag RESTORATION - with new brake rub tip

Thanks Dyno-Mike!

So which is numero uno (best)? Mr. Clean Magic Eraser or Simple Green?

Btw, does Simple Green work on brake rub also? If not, i'll opt with Magic Eraser

What soft scrub are you using, I'm in Australia, when I search for it, different products come up.
Some over $100 for a spray bottle :roll eyes:

try liquid comet with bleach or the key words cleaner with bleach. you could always make your own . Mix powdered cleanser with dish soap and bleach.

Re: Full white Mag RESTORATION - with new brake rub tip

I tried the soft scrub method, and They got a long over due bath, that was drastically needed. However they still had a yellowish tint to them leaving them noticeably off white. They also had quite a bit of mildew staining on them. So, I moved on to bleaching them, I did the 1 gallon of bleach/ full submersion the rest of the way with water, for 48 hours. I'm happy with the outcome.

How much bleach do you mix with water to soak white mags?  What bleach are you guys using to soak?

I do 1 gallon of clorox bleach to 5 gallon of water. if they are still yellowed after bleach bath give them a hair peroxide treatment and leave in the HOT sun for 4 hours , flip, and apply more  and do the other side.

Re: Full white Mag RESTORATION - with new brake rub tip

I got these white OGK III Mags off a Hutch windstyler.. prior to receiving them I thought they were faded grey from the pictures I saw... Turns out they were just 30 years of gnar!https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/266741/img_20201112_0055390175fee3d94ea.jpg

Re: Full white Mag RESTORATION - with new brake rub tip

I have used magic erasers before and they work but for the money, I don't think they are worth it... I hear the nest is a media blast or vapor media blast... I want to try a pressure washer next...

Anyway... My favorite inexpensive way so far is 0 - 00 steel wool with warm soapy water..

Sit down with a drink, towel, crate with wash basin and some music... Sit and elbow grease away..
