Re: Full white Mag RESTORATION - with new brake rub tip

I've tried the Soft Scrub method on a few sets of wheels...works great, but have never tried it with Scotch Brite.  I'll give it a try and thanks!

One thing I would add is that I see you left your hub exposed.  I'd recommend either taking the opportunity to rebuild the hub while you're cleaning the wheel, or wrap the hub/axle in duct tape to protect is from the Scotch Brite and water.  Needless to say, bearing grease and gritty bleach cleaner are not bros!

I NEED: 1986-88 Chrome ELF Pro Frame/Fork
I NEED: 24" Blue UKAI Speedline hoop or wheel--single or pair
I NEED: White Vinyl REDLINE Top Tube Pad--old, snap style in very good condition

Re: Full white Mag RESTORATION - with new brake rub tip

I tried this razor blade method on some skyway O.E.'s that I got. It worked great, its even all the way around, brakes super smooth. I wet sanded my performer mags and when I hit the brakes I can feel little bumps and uneven spots. This way is much better.  cool

Re: Full white Mag RESTORATION - with new brake rub tip

I have used soft scrub and scotch brite on white skyway mags before and they get them clean but they still need to be bleached to get that really white look. The razor blade works good too but be careful on the angle, too steep and you're chipping off the mag.

you are right, some skyways are just WAY too stubborn to clean this way, i just had a set of skyway OE's that i had to bleach...first time in about a year that ive had to actually use bleach on mags but what can ya do smile
