Re: show me a 83 gt pro long

I have an 84  "L4"  it's my favorite bike..was out riding it today.  It's still a bit short at 19 1/4 but the forks have a lot of rake so that helps out.  I just got 2 more 84's  to put together one for racing and the other just a rider.   Not sure if I've seen any 83 longs..  only seen 3 other 84 long frames in the last 2 years.  http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n178/bc34c/100_5563.jpg

Re: show me a 83 gt pro long

Yes, Squirrel, there is a member called 83GTLongPro.  Unfortunately, though, after becoming a member and going to the GT serial listings, I found out that I was robbed back in 83.  I only have a Pro.  I mail ordered the frame, and remember specifically telling them I wanted the Long Pro.  Bastages anyway.

Re: show me a 83 gt pro long

have to wait till tomm, neither is built. Both hanging in the garage. They look like any other GT really just a tiny bit longer with a 4 stamped in the drop.

Re: show me a 83 gt pro long

I believe the "4" means it is just a Pro, Unfit.  Check the GT serial listings, though.  I may be wrong. hmm

Re: show me a 83 gt pro long

4 is pro.... "L4" is the prolong and measures 19 1/4 not 18.5

Re: show me a 83 gt pro long

The 1983 GT catalog doesn't list a a Pro Long. Only a Pro. I've never heard of a 1983 Pro Long. Does anyone have any photos or catalog scans?

Same for the 1982 Junior 24. They did exist, but in very limited numbers. I spoke to someone a while ago that had one, but they sold it (for a very cheap price) and it ended up in Australia, but the trail went dead there. Probably good too, otherwise I would be trying to spend more money on another GT smile

Re: show me a 83 gt pro long

Well if my memory is correct, the 83 frame was actually called a proxl . I got an 83 proxl back when it first came out cause thats what Greg Hill was racing on. I dont remember the L4 stamp on my drop, of course that was many years ago. Is it possible the "pro long" with the L4 may have started in 84?

So there was the 83 Pro, and the 83 Pro XL?

I remember that is why I wanted the GT.  But I know my frame has a "4" on the drop out, and the top tube length is only 18.5 inches center to center.  What does your drop out say, Squirrel?

I'm no expert, but I do own a 1981 GT Junior frameset, a 1983 GT Expert, 1983 GT Pro, 1982 GT 24 and 1981 GT 26. I haven't heard of a 1983 GT Pro Long, only a 1983 GT Pro (designated by the 4 stamping on the dropout by the serial number). The 1983 GT catalog I have doesn't list it either, and it only shows the Junior, Expert, Pro and 24. The Junior 24 was noted as being available in the BMXA test of the 82 GT 24, but I have never seen it listed in catalogs (though I dont have a 1982 catalog)

If the Pro Long does exist, perhaps it was special order. The Pro in earlier days was known as the Long.

yeah..that's what I meant...one listed but no pic of dropout  or toptube measurement and listed by a guest  so  not really buying that one....plus a lot of people still can't seem to measure a top tube....

Re: show me a 83 gt pro long

Mine was a ProXL...but at the track, they called them Pro Long.  Only pics I have of the bike are me riding it, and with my spindly and tall frame at the time...it makes it look like a Pro anyway.  Sitting on the bike, the TT was about 1.5 to 2" longer than the standard Pro.

Wish I had that bike....dam.
