1986 Hutch Trick Star
1986 Hutch Trick Star
Original Finish
EDIT — SOLD
I've always wanted a Baby Blue Hutch Trick Star. So I collected parts for this bike over about 2 years and built this bike just before the Summer Slam 2009 party / show in August.... and I just finally got down to business and shot some pics of it before the cold weather sets in. But I was just to darn excited to document the 82 GJS I was building at the same time as this bike. The GJS was my custom/restoration, and this Trick Star was to be my Survivor build with a more realist approach. One of the better Japanese models. The standing platform is nice and parallel with the top tube, unlike some of the other overseas Trick Star models. A quick look, and you can tell this one was engineered right!
This one came out great. I really wanted to do justice to this particular Trick Star given that the Frame and fork still have the original paint and stickers... in incredibly preserved condition. The bars do as well. So I wanted to maintain that no re-finished parts go on this bike. I knew I wanted to go with black tires and only some subtle color accents to compliment the subdued Hutch baby blue paint. The Peregrine HP tires have a similar pattern to hutch tires, and were always a favorite of mine to ride back in the day. I didn't want it to have that typical "loud" freestyle look. So I wanted to use parts and colors that showed respect to that. This bike not only looks awesome. it rides great and is super dialed.
* Trick Star Frame & Fork (original paint & decals)
* Woody Itson Handlebars (original paint & decals)

* AME Unitron Grips
* Chrome/Sealed-Bearing Araya 7x 48s

I love it when someone takes the time to match the colors so well.
Beautiful job.

Re: 1986 Hutch Trick Star
I THINK I LOVE IT, YET I HATE IT.
ITS LIKE ONE OF THOSE BAD RELATIONSHIPS.
MAYBE IT IS THE TIRES!?
I KNOW I LIKE THE COLORS AND THE PARTS, ITS GOT TO BE THE TIRES! MAYBE THE BARS?
EITHER WAY VERY NICE BUILD.

You don't like Woody Itson bars? I definitely prefer them over Ladder bars.
Either way. Thanks! (i think)

Re: 1986 Hutch Trick Star
I'm not a huge fan of Trickstars but this one is very nice. A lot of members OVER due it on Trickastars with the color co-ordinating but not on this one. Matt, you really did an awesome job on this bike and you should be very happy with it. I like that you mixed up the colors a bit with the black tires. White tires would be over the top imo. Nice work Matt. This IS THE MUSEUMS FINEST TRICKSTAR I've seen to date.

Re: 1986 Hutch Trick Star
Wow! Again what a build Matt! Turned out great. I remember asking you "how are you going to build it up" when I sent it to you about 1 year ago and you said "Slow!" Its one year later and it turned out great!
Only thing I noticed is the lower gyro cable sticker is kinda angled.

Haha.. Slow it was. Very....
And we can blame Odyssey for putting the sticker on like that at the factory.
That ain't no Repro decal. I pulled it out of a sealed package that way. Oh well.

Beauty.
I love the bars and the color choices/design. Black tires make the powder blue and white look so good.
Thanks for adding the extra photos, I grabbed them for my screen saver.

Re: 1986 Hutch Trick Star
Great looking bike, but to be honest I expect nothing less from you Matt after i saw the Torker . The bike just blends into itself with sympathetically restored parts and an almost understated balance of chrome and colour, the mark of a truly beautiful bike and what a lot of us hope to achieve when we start a project...

Re: 1986 Hutch Trick Star
You proved that a TS doesn't have to be a 84-85 US model to be ridiculously dope!
thanks all the hard work paid off!
