My 83' Predator Build

Thanks to you guys who helped me I.D. this bike in the "Name It" section I decided to see what I can do with it. Originally my uncle’s bike, until I called him and asked if he still wanted it and said I could have it! Some before pic's can be seen here-->http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=166107

I have fully stripped the bike down and this is where the bike stands now! After degreasing, scrubbing and lots of hand polishing (still not done).

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d160/ANDR3W1590/bmx%20bike/DSC04032.jpg

By no means is the chrome perfect, has pits and scratches but looks awesome for being almost a 30 year old bike! The frame, forks, seat post, handle bars, and crank took a dip in a 6-7 hour OA bath.

So far I have bought new repop decals, a NOS predator v-bar pad, and nice a set of knockoff Dia-compe MX1000 brake calipers.
I think the color theme is going to be red, white and black.

Re: My 83' Predator Build

^^^Thanks guys!

Small update. Busted out the trusty paint stripper and went to town on the spray bombed rims. Discovered a suntour freewheel, cmc rims, and help me figure out them hubs!wink Front hub had 2 K's inside a cupcake looking thing and the rear hub looks like it has a U N and a Y with two circles above the letters.

Anyone know where i can find new bearing retainers for these?

Rims still need to be cleaned more and remove the old faded peeling red ano/urethane or what ever it is. The plan is to polish and throw some red nipples on!

Re: My 83' Predator Build

Rims and hubs are stock. Not sure on the bearings. They surprised me when I took mine apart. They look like mini bottom bracket bearings. Here's a picture of my daughters after I cleaned it up.

Re: My 83' Predator Build

Thanks guys!

Rear hub is junk found that is has cracked full circle inside where the bearings go. Since i have cr-mo mag decals if figure it's a prefect time to get some mags so it can live up to its name. cool

Did salvage the suntour freewheel, was about to junk it but decided to clean it up and soak it in white lithium grease and it came out primo. It acually makes the clicking sounds lol. Saved my self some dough.

Re: My 83' Predator Build

175mm Sugino Cr-Mo crank arrived. OA'd and polished. Just have to buy a sugino chainring to complete the set! Have sugino spider, sugino chainring bolts, and now sugino crank. I can now also run a sealed mechanism BB with 24 tpi!

Nice looking bike. My friend had one when I was young, I think in 1983. I always liked it. I intend to buy one eventually.

Nope, ano is OG. Has a few nicks, but still nice so i left it alone. Just cleaned it up with soap and water.
