1983 Race Inc. RA-7
1983 Race Inc. RA-7
My other Race Inc.
This bike came to me broken. It was my first eBay purchase, I had no idea what I was doing. I didn't realize these frame came up for sale all the time. It's a long story but this frame was thrashed and severely cracked. Rod Miles did his magic to it, then it was polished and powdered a 2 stage candy red. As good as these pictures are it's even more stunning in the daylight in person. I'm not sure it's even a BMX bike anymore. It was an experiment. Most of the parts were well used prior to be polished or painted. Grips and tires are new. NOS BB, brakes, and seat—I think the rest is used stuff. This took over a year to do.

You are killing me. That looks so good. All I can think about is how bad I would love to ride that bike. How are you finding Race Inc Frames and Bikes? And what are they going for when you first get them? What's the cost to have them painted or powder coated?

Well done mate, that bike is truly awesome!
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.

Wow, thank you guys fort the kind words. This bike is pretty special for me just because it went through such a transformation. You can see all the pictures, including the 'before' pictures on this little site that I built.
http://nicjohnson.com/vbmx/main.php?g2_itemId=112
There is a little full-size button above and below each large image that will give you the high res picture. Not very intuitive site, I know. I think the only new parts on the bike are the brakes, tires and the grips. Everything else was well used... oh the hubs are NOS—but the rims are polished out old 7Xs. There are pictures of the repairs as well. Interesting process. It was a lot of fun to do.

Re: 1983 Race Inc. RA-7
Gary, thank you sir for the kudos and for this site. The bike photos are not as formal as they might seem. I take two ladders (or whatever) and run a long pole between them. I then clamp two big sheets of white paper (purchased at photo store in a roll) to the pole and let the paper run down and along the ground. Makes a backdrop and white floor. My wife holds onto the bike with her finger tips in a way that doesn't obscure the part she's holding. Then in Photoshop I brighten the photo, this takes out much of the imperfections and shadows on the paper. Then I use Photoshop to remove the paper seams (where the two pieces come together), paint out my wife's arm and whatever edges were not obscured by the backdrop. Just make sure the whole bike has backdrop behind it. It looks something like this. (these photos are actually not good because the bike is not completely within the backdrop but it kinda shows the set up.
Oh, and most importantly... shoot picts on an overcast day so the light is even. The white backdrop helps bounce the light around evenly too. If you don't have Photoshop there are other programs like it that will achieve the same thing. So there you have it.

Re: 1983 Race Inc. RA-7
SICK, SICK BIKE!!! You should be an example to this site! Not that i have anything against the fellow members owning 100s of bikes and frames, (more power to them), but I think if we are going to spend the time, and money, on an old school gem, might as well put it together like it is supposed to! I hope when I finish mine, it would end up looking as good as yours! Great Job!
I can see my house from up here!!

That’s the type of bike you will hesitate to ride. It’s too awesome to get a scratch.
