Re: Redline V bar sizes shown and explained.

My 2 cents: Nickel unstamped 26" wide where 1st Gen. Had very deep "V" as others have mentioned. Second Gen. had oval stamp w/open ends.

Here is my Nickel deep V bars

http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy244/Guthrie_Tater/BMX/NickelRedlineVbars.jpg

Ok.. now I am gonna add some more info just to mess with you. tongue
I have a set of Chromed V bars unstamped with the deep V that when measured with a micrometer are EXACT (3.40") to my nickel bars (in terms of V depth) but the bars also have no stamp but do have a knurl.

Measured from bottom of V to top of clamp area. JFYI

Re: Redline V bar sizes shown and explained.

I recall Linn Kastan saying in an interview once, that he made the first versions of his tube fork with the bottom ends going past the drop outs, to look similar to the Maico MX bikes and the way those forks looked. It was just cosmetic and they got slightly shorter as the production/versions went along. Basically the longer they are past the drop outs, usually the older they are, with the first versions being the longest. Remember Linn Kastan/Redline (and other early companies like Webco) were making motorcyle parts before they got into the BMX stuff...

Vintage Maico MX bike showing the extended fork tubes past drop outs:

Gotta love vintage 70's Redline stuff... The forks, frames, the stems and V-Bars... All were some of the best design ever in the history of BMX. Linn Kastan was brilliant at what he was doing in those early times. He also made custom swingarms for MX before he got into BMX parts and that was basically the same design he used for the rear end of the first couple years of the Squareback BMX frame.

My '76 Squareback with what are probably second generation non-drilled Nickel Redline forks, a little longer than the drop outs but a bit shorter than 2 years or so before:

Re: Redline V bar sizes shown and explained.

OMG i cant believe this. even here no some members dont believe that the REDLINE micro line are not original, i will say this to all of you, i almost sell about 500 micro line REDLINE V bars on ebay, thyre painted not anodized, why some one has the stamped and other dont, easy!!! some ones have more paint in the area, to all those members out there who buy micro line v bars i just pell off the paint on one very scratced mico REDLINE V bar, and the STAMPED IS THERE, so...if you can sae the STAMPED very clear is behind the paint, wen i open the NOS box wen this bars came, the box hold 12 bars inside, all the time 1 or 2 bars have the STAMPED behind the paint, in some cases you just can see one tint part of the REDLINE stamped, and all the microlline bars have the same stamped not the oval one, this one =REDLINE= i still have a ton of boxes sealed, so no taiwan sticker like some one here said, no fakes, or taiwan made....i also have the sticker on the side of the box from the redline company, stamped, bow sealled, and the redline recipt from the company is not a fraud or fake......

Re: Redline V bar sizes shown and explained.

i think you misunderstood.

some are asking if the alloy bars are real (they are not)
and others are asking if the non-stamped cro-mo v bars are fake..
while some may be, most believe redline did not stamp all its bars.

i got a set that are not stamped and i got a set that is stamped.
both are microline bars, unstamped are red, stamped are blue.
both have the same sticker on it.

can we get a better pic of these ?

these have the str stamping and are also V bars i take it...

my v bars only have the redline oval stamp and my strait bars are the ones with
the str stampings..

ive never seen a str stamped 28" wide v bar.

I HAVE A SET OF REDLINE BARS THAT CAME ON A COMPLETE FACTORY REDLINE 84 500 A I GOT OFF EBAY.WHEN I RECIEVED THE BIKE THE FIRST THING  NOTICED WAS THE SIZE OF THE BARS THEY WERE REALY COMFORTABLE.
THEY MEASURE 28" WIDE W/9' RISE HAVE GREAT WELDS & CHROME PLATEING .THE KNURLING IS THE SAME WIDE AS MY REDLINE BRUTE STEM BUT THER IS NO REDLINE STAMP OF ANY KIND.THE BIKE WAS TOTALY COMPLETE HARDLY RIDDEN.

Re: Redline V bar sizes shown and explained.

I bought a pair of microline bars in '79 or '80. They were chrome and I recall them having an oval stamp and an oval decal. I had mine extended a few inches since I wanted them wider. The oval was for sure "before" the three line =REDLINE= stamp.

Re: Redline V bar sizes shown and explained.

Seems like there are three sizes/variations:

1. Microline - 23" wide, 8" rise

2. Pro-line - 26" wide, 9" rise

3. Name? STR? - 28" wide, 9" rise

Q1. There seems to be STR stamped and non-STR stamped Redline V bars - are these only in 28" size?  are there any differences b/w those stamped STR and those without?  ie. rises, angles?

Q2. The blue and red V Bars, they were made in the 23" size, were they made in the larger 26" and 28" sizes?

a1 - str stamped bars are only 28" wide but redline made 28" wide bars that were stamped redline, stamped redline and str, as well as not stamped at all. str stamped bars came in v bar and strait bar flavors.

a2 - not that i know of. ive only seen str bars in chrome and white (and i dont know if the ones i saw in white where OG)
