1985 JU Racing Mini

Jeff Utterback side project, less than 200 made

Jeff Utterback had a side project called JU Racing after GJS closed in 1985.  He designed approximately 200 of these mini frame and forks for riders under 70 pounds.

They were very light but a tad weak on the upsweep down tube where they would crack.  The seat post clamp area had a hole for the GJS seat post clamp.  With the limited number available and awesome design I thought I would give the bike a vintage 1979 feel for Jeff's heyday of racing.

Hope you enjoy another historical ride.

Re: 1985 JU Racing Mini

I love the look of that stem polished out. Looks much better than it did sitting on my desk for the past six months!!!! I'm glad it went on a sweeeet ride! Beautiful!

Re: 1985 JU Racing Mini

great build.. Super rare bike I'm sure...  Where did you find the stem pad, or was that reproduced? AWESOME to say the least...

I have the same stem on my 1977 DG.. not polished of course..

Re: 1985 JU Racing Mini

Where did you find the stem pad, or was that reproduced?

The pad is a one off I had in a bag (NOS) for many years and like another DG I will post I opted for the DG / Powerlite stem.

As for rare there are some out there but was surprised that there wasn't a JU Racing Bike Manufacturer in the Museum so it was created and here's the first.  Hopefully more JU's will appear as I thought I would never build this and surprising it turned out how it did.

Thanks for the + feedback

Re: 1985 JU Racing Mini

Sweet bike. Didn't know you had one of these. Very nice. I think my fave thing on this bike is the saddle. That's the one I had BITD and I NEVER see those. I'd love to find one, but all I see are the rainbow-sticker ones. The brake lever is sweet, too. Is it black?

Re: 1985 JU Racing Mini

Yes the 1st Gen Uni was so out there BITD and yes not too many of these guys around anymore.  The Team Products lever is black and stamped TP.

Always looking for Cook Bros. stuff, vintage SE stuff,  MCS 6 bolt Super stems,  and Race Inc. Leading Edge/Cycle Pro/BMX innovations 20" forks.  All NOS or in very nice condition.
