87 Haro Sport Project

hey guy i just thought i'd share my project with you. any ideas and pointers are welcomed. im not sure what to replace and restore so your advice would be appreciated. should i clean up the original bearings or get new ones? the ones that were in the wheels were just the balls but i got some in a cage from a bike shop. would the newer ones be better? i also got a new chain.

here are all my parts:

i accidentally bent this thing trying to take the stem off =/

my original freewheel is MIA. im on the hunt for it but im pretty sure its on my friends bike. one of the teeth from the chainring is damaged so i just ordered a new one from ajk.

Re: 87 Haro Sport Project

I just started an 87 sport myself.  I am for sure replacing the headset and bottom bracket.  I am going to try to find and re-use as much Group 1 stuff as I can.  There  are some great web sites with new or good shape used parts that I am going to pick from.  Also, I drool over ebay about 3 times a day-go easy on that one.  I figured out what parts I want for it.  Now its just a matter of getting them or touching up the ones that I have.  You for sure can find a 1 inch gyro.  Look Up Alan's bmx in Great Brittain and Ginny's old school bmx in PA.  They both have a lot of stuff.  Also, look here on the for sale  forum.  We all have garages full of stuff that we can stand to get rid of...just ask my wife, she knows of everything  that I need to get rid of.

Re: 87 Haro Sport Project

my wheel bearings were not enclosed in a cage they were free inside the wheel... are the supposed to be like that? all my other bearings have cages thats why i bought new ones with cages

edit: can someone tell me where to find the serial number? cant find it anywhere

Re: 87 Haro Sport Project

the berings are loose ones yes

the # should be on the down tube on the underneath side close to the crank housing
should be where you sanded off the paint in your pic ( downtube)

Re: 87 Haro Sport Project

here is a auction for the flip up fork stands that you need on the bay these ones are a bit pricy on the shipping  but if you can keep total costs below 65 it would be worth it
these can help out your trick like no tommorow or they can gash you open like no other - lol
they do look cool though and really are great for tricks

Re: 87 Haro Sport Project

didnt realize you guys were interested smile. well i'd say im 75% complete with it. i have most of my parts.. only major things im missing is a front brake and its lines, and pedals. my powdercoater is taking forever! the fork, crank, seat post, and handle bars are done and w me at home but the frame is still in the shop mad he said it should be done by tuesday. my tuffs are still in the paper bags but they are pretty clean. i wish i could post some pics but my sister took the camera. i'll post some up tomorrow tho.

johnny: post yours up too. i wanna see it! not sure what you consider presentable but mines wasnt either imo.
