It was just wrong? no, it is an RRS.

For a long time I had this bike that got me thinking and over time I forgot to do research until I got tight on money. I had accumulated a lot of bmx bikes and parts so decided to have a little summer sale on CL. Well I posted an add up with some stuff I have, just a few pics nothing big. I immediately got response to the post an set up time to sell some stuff.
One of the people that came to buy some bmx parts started talking to me and refreshed my memory on the different bikes he had and I did the same. Over time I kept In touch and asked a ton of questions through email. Back an forth I sent pics of different frames, parts, pieces ect. So last but not least I sent a pic of a bike that had me stumped and the response was not what I figured but even better, " its an old RRS very rare" . I was saying to myself whats that? Went to one site that I knew had the answers , and here I am a member and a lucky one ta boot!  I wanted to wait an post this up when I fully restored it but my friend suggested I put it up and share the pics before.
Hope you get a kick outta this- I bought the bike from a younger kid bout ten years ago. The kid was trying to pull a wheelie and let the bike go not once but quite a few times. I was always looking for bmx parts and stuff so I asked if he would sell it? I had to let the kid use my cell to call home cause it wasn't his to sell or something like that. So he said that his mom or dad wanted 5 bucks more than offered and I agreed.
Well here it is. make some suggestions on restoring please!  Oh and check out the serial#

The canti brakes were throwing me off, I couldn't understand why a bike with old school parts had those brakes.

Re: It was just wrong? no, it is an RRS.

I dont think an 81 with those canti brakes? Seems ive seen these front forks, look a bit more modern than an 81 bike of this type would have?  I may be way off base with this. neutral

Nice bike.

RRS were the first bmx bikes with canti brakes.  way ahead of their time.

LBS = Local Bike Shop. (sticker might indicate the original point-of-sale)

I didn't mean "correct" finish BTW, I just meant it has the original finish too. Very cool

Re: It was just wrong? no, it is an RRS.

rrs were the first ones to run 26" wheels in the front and a 24" in the rear. in the late 90's and early 00 mountain bikers started running that on their dual slalom bikes.

i picked up a rrs exatly like yours around 1994. only a few hours away from you.it came from a shop in croydon,pa.

of course money became tight and i of course sold it to jeff haney in 00 or 01 i think?

good to see you still have the brake's springs

Re: It was just wrong? no, it is an RRS.

Wow whatever you do be very careful. Dont put a BMX headset in that thing if you plan on replacing the headset. RRS used Roadbike sized headsets which are a little smaller than BMX headsets. If one were to force a BMX headset in that thing you could damage the headtube.

If it were me I would try and re-use as much of that bike as possible. Try to resist using anything NOS on that bike.  Just remove those tires and clean up the rust replace the chain and maybe the freewheel. Replace the grips with something nice and cable up that brake. I can help you find the correct brakepads for those cantilever brakes. I may even be able to find you the hangar for the seatclamp. I think Survivor build for this would be perfect.

I have to say its the same in the pics from when I first acquired it. I was a bit tight on money and had the idea to let it go but there is to much in the history and the way I came across it. Hey do you think its the same or just close in resemblance?
