1988 Redline RL-20II

***SOLD sad***

My Holy Grail since 1986 and finally scored a F/F off of Ebay for a whopping $225. I love the '85 turquoise color/decals and decided to send it off to C4 for a proper restoration. Since the '88 doesn't have chrome rear dropouts, I elected to go with a fade to black scheme. Chip said it was one of his toughest fades to date. It came out better than I hoped.
Parts list:
Peregrine Q-bars
Redline 6 Bolt Stem
Peregrine Seat Clamp
Redline Flight Cranks
Redline Proline Chainwheel
Dia Compe 883 Nippon Front Brake
Dia Compe 990 Rear Brake
Dia Compe Tech 6 Levers
Peregrine HP48 Wheels
Odyssey Triple Trap Pedals
ODI Toadstool Grips
Viscount Dominator Seat
Tioga MX2 Headset
Black Gumwall Freestyle Tires

Re: 1988 Redline RL-20II

Very nice indeed. The bars and stem look great. Maybe the best Redline colour ( Of course, because I have one )

So does it sit on carpet, or ride on pavement?

I've wanted an RL-20II since I saw Rad. This sumb*tch gets ridden. I don't beat on it by any means but I couldn't see building a bike only to hang it on the wall (so to speak).

Re: 1988 Redline RL-20II

I can't believe its been nearly 4 years since I built this. It was definitely a learning experience. I would do things much differently today.

I'd restore it to the proper '88 paint scheme/decals.

I'd change the following:

Bars - I don't like the near zero sweep of the Q-Bars
Cranks - I'd use old school OPC or 401s. Its the new Flight hardware that I hate. The cranks themselves are fine. Details!
Seat - Dominators just don't look right on a Redline
Chainwheel - That thing is a nightmare. I hate it
Pedals - I just don't like the triple traps
Levers- Tech 7 or RX-3s are my preference.

Otherwise, its perfect! tongue

I may have cleaned it up and left it survivor style today

Re: 1988 Redline RL-20II

Though I would say keep the paint and decals, the parts are easy and will make you happier

Its long gone. Someone saw it at a show and really liked it and made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I've taken that experience and applied to my other builds. It was a great learning too. Not just from a parts/building stand point, but from a mechanical standpoint as well. I needed alot of help with this one and now I can rip apart or build a bike up in no time, with no mistakes. I also learned the value of having the correct tools for the job!
