1980 DG ZF-1
1980 DG ZF-1
The ZF-1 is a pretty rare frame designed by Sal Zeuner and Byron Friday. It has a 19.5" toptube and a steeper headtube angle than bikes of this era - making it several years ahead of its time.
This bike was built to emmulate the yellow DG 3 I had as a kid. Instead of second shelf parts, this bugger received all the parts I dreamt of having - DuraAce cranks, Bullseye hubs & bottom bracket, and especially the Reedy pedals. Aside from the upgraded frame and parts, this bike looks identical to the one that was stolen from me back in 1981. It's nice to have it back!

Re: 1980 DG ZF-1
Great job. I lived right by the OC Cook Bros factory in 81 and used to ride my bike there staring at all the chrome through the back warehouse roll up doors. That year I got a brand new everything Cook Bros for Christmas and it got ripped three weeks later. Been chasing it ever since. Great build.
Wanted: Cook Bros stuff. SE/PK Ripper Brown and Lt Blue pad set

Re: 1980 DG ZF-1
Nice job on the build. I see what you mean on the geometry
way ahead of it's time.
I can't believe the way people mistreat bikes. It also amazes me how many people don't have any bikes and never ride them - poor miserable souls.

Re: 1980 DG ZF-1
Great build. Do you know if Byron Friday went on to create the modern company called "Bike Friday"? They are high end custom road w small wheels folding etc.
