GT fans,chime in...GT Piston stem - 3D designed

I had some free time and wanted to play...

So,since the GT USA-Made stems are CNC machined,i found it a nice idea and started working on a sketch about an hour ago..
I didn't have the original dimensions and everything was done by naked eye.

Well, not something special, but here are some pics of the outcome i'd like to share:

What do you think?? Maybe I'll try to work on the "GT" logo and the "Made in U.S.A" side stamps.
I'd like to hear any ideas you may have as well.
I might start working on some other older "legendary" stems to convert them to threadless....like someone did on the GT 'mallet' on two retro GT SHOW bikes.

PS:Anyone who maybe have dimension sheets i'd like to know.

Duke.

if he would have made a limited run of 100 of these, he woulda sold every single one of them. even at a high price.

I completely agree!
Snider, are you saying you can duplicate these?

If I can get the time lol. But, to answer your question I could easily duplicate them, or any stem for that matter.

You got me right sir! Haha
Awesome work!

If you can find the dimensions i can build up a 3D sketch for you to have.
I would like to try Hutch stems & Pro-Neck/Tuff-Neck...these are easier to make.

Then 3D designs are off to go to the machinist.
I do believe that too....if the outcome is more than brilliant,a lot of people out there will pay high dollar to get them

Thanks bro, some free time and its a pleasure for me to work on these things.

Re: GT fans,chime in...GT Piston stem - 3D designed

i want a gt stem but instead of the letters g and t, i want it to be RF because thats what my initials are....
whenever i get to making my own frames based on classic gt frame models, my company will be called RF and im going to have the wings on each side of my initials just like the old gt logo lol

Re: GT fans,chime in...GT Piston stem - 3D designed

I spent some more time on it.

Side logos and pressure plate logo are on their place now.
Check it out:

I tried to get them as closer as it gets to the original lettering....the outcome is not that bad, huh??  neutral

Re: GT fans,chime in...GT Piston stem - 3D designed

lollol

I need to get my hands on a mallet so that i can replicate a threadless version (both "short reach" & freestyle)
Probably Trilogy or Pep could help us with the real designs,if they can find them though.

Re: GT fans,chime in...GT Piston stem - 3D designed

looking good on the piston! i would say the first pic shows that the front piece is also threaded and it doesnt need to be unless that was your plan all along...also the part that clamps onto the fork it looks like the first pinch piece is threaded and isnt on the real ones

and ill say it again, i want that mallet haha

So you need Trilogy to complete the trilogy?  That is epic man.  Nice looking stems and CAD work.

Snider wrote:

This is a scary statement, especially when there are so many fake parts floating around...GT already has a threadless piston stem, so what's the point of "re-poppin" them?...I could see a want for the threadless mallet, but to redo the piston stem just seems a lil' shady to me...Why don't you put the old school GT logo on there or put your own spin on it to distinguish them from the originals??

Just my .02 - Am I the only one who feels this way??

Thumbs down to re-pooped parts...
