Re: Make old white tires WHITE again

got some soft scrub with bleach today.  Hoping to go to town on some tires and mags this weekend.  Im wondering if it works on yellowed spots?

Re: Make old white tires WHITE again

careful with stuff with bleach in it. it will dry rot your side walls, if there skinwall. if there gumwall i wouldn't think it would hurt but i haven't had experience with gumwall cleaning.

you will also notice the tread on the tires will get kind of hard and shinny which makes them super slick on a tile floor. hmm

which reminds me, Mike are you EVER going to grout that floor? tongue

the bleach does not affect tires in a negative way at all...ive actually been doing this for 2 years now and havent had a problem on any of the tires, just figured id post it incase people hadnt tried it smile

does not make the tires hard at all...and who rides on tile lol

i will be grouting the floor this weekend...maybe lol

Re: Make old white tires WHITE again

Well I'm not sure what Aleks used to clean the tires on his blue bike.  All I know is he said it had bleach in it and they are extremely crispy. hmm  They are not rubbery at all, like hard plastic.

these are very soft and pliable so check with aleks to see what he used but i def. stand behind the soft scrub...tested and approved big_smile

when i was running white comp pools on one of my '86 performers i would soft scrub them after every ride to keep em bright white, never any negative affects, just pure whiteness...obv. with old tires it depends on how dirty/aged they are but with a little elbow grease this stuff does a great job

Re: Make old white tires WHITE again

used dyno-mike's technique today and was blown away! I had the same soft scrub bleach lying around the house so I decided to give it a try, I had bird poop stains, scuff marks, old dirt etc all over the wheels/tires, it was an eye sore for me. After about 10 minutes on each wheel it looked new again, thanks to Dyno-mike for this wonderful cleaning tip!

Re: Make old white tires WHITE again

it has bleach in it, how did you not get the soft scrub on the red/pink part of the tires Mike?

I've been using soft scrub with bleach on Shinkos for 22 years. The pink isn't effected.

Did you use the soft scrub on the mag as well?  Can someone post a pic of this stuff?  I would like to try it out too.  smile

Re: Make old white tires WHITE again

I finally got some yellowed tires & soft scrub with bleach in the tub, it worked great.  I did 4 16" tires, here they are next to some  yellowed 20" tires that I'll do later (my back got sore bending over the tub)

I soaked them in 100% pure bleach. Well, just the white part of the tires. That's probably why that happened to them. I didn't know those were the side effects at the time though. I'll have to try this method as well.

Re: Make old white tires WHITE again

Did a set of white skinwalls a couple nights ago with this process, and got the tires pretty close to white. I decided to try scrubbing on a light coat of soft scrub and letting them sit for about an hour.

It made a huge difference. I Set them next to a set of NOS and could barely see a difference in color. I imagine if the tires are real yellow a couple of rounds of doing this would bring them back to a bright white. cool

Thanks for the help and tips Chels
