Re: Broken frames

My JMC standard from bitd, hairline crack under the headtube.
only got it because my parents made me get a paper route job at 9 years old to pay for the bike.
(unfortunetly I used to deliver with the bags on the handle bars)
wish I didn't but sold it on this site when I first joined, for 2bills.I'm turning 37 this halloween kept it all these years, should have sent it to the frame doctor, had the thin blade forks with the cutouts too.Oh well live and learn.
I will get another someday.

Would like lots of bikes but the SE Hauler is one that has a lot of sentimental value to me. Anyone got one?

Re: Broken frames

I've never broken anything. I've bent a fork or two...but no breaks...yet. (unless you count my ELBOW!)

I never weighed more than 125 pounds until the day I got married! I weighed 120 the day I graduated H.S. and I wore a size 27x32 pants!

Stick boy!

Now I weigh 165...and I ride like a grandpa...sigh.

Funny stories in here.

Re: Broken frames

The only bike that I remember breaking was my $2.50 flea market special that became my first bmx bike which I think it was a Raleigh. It had a Stingray style frame, but with a euro bottom bracket.I remember the forks were about ready to break off at the fork crown from jumping off a five foot high bark dust pile that I made into a gnarly jump by using a six foot long and two foot wide piece of peg board. That bike was scary light and I could pull off an impressive table top when I jumped it.I also remember my dad was about ready to take his belt to me for being too damn hard on my bike roll ,to which I replied that my bikes wouldn't break if they weren't such a cheap pieces of sh!t.He also said that if I wanted a new bike,I would have pay for it with my monthly allowance money, which would have taken me 12 years to save up for because the allowance that he gave me was about right for the depression era. roll

Actually i haven't really break any, but i had some issues like you did.
My 1998 Blammo cracked on the seat-stay wishbone, both right & left sides.

Also a 1998 Pro Performer (Full Cro-mo) cracked on the right seat-stay dropout_almost cut in half you could say!

I broke the head tube clean off of a Columbia freestyle bike I was dirt jumping at some trails when I was like 12/13 years old.
was amazing I didn't die then.

I did that in a race on a Huffy. I was going through the whoops and I straddled the second hump and split the frame. I slid forever and still had the front clip in my hands. That's when I got a Goose

Re: Broken frames

I broke a CW ZL in half, the welds at the head tube didn't brake, but the top and bottom tubes did. I also broke a rib on my C-dub bars when
I landed.

Re: Broken frames

The only frame I ever broke was my 97 Mongoose Carbon.  I snapped the right rear dropout clean off the frame doing back wheel hops at a red light in downtown Tokyo.  For 2 blocks I couldn't figure out why my chain was suddenly so loose.  That frame was a pile.

Re: Broken frames

My '81 Robinson. Down tube cracked below the gusset about 3/4 the way around. Had it welded by a guy at a garage and it's still going. The welds look as good if not better than what is on the rest of the bike.

Re: Broken frames

i cracked the weld on a rear dropout on a 92 GT PFT.....that was the least of my problems that day...came off a 3 foot jump almost vertical...seat went up my butt a lil bit (we all been there)...the rear rim was bent to shreds....and the weld cracked...i didnt notice the weld crack until i went to put the new rear wheel on though

Re: Broken frames

I have never broke a BMX frame, but i have broken a 2004 Azonic Saber MTB frame. Cracked the seat sube completely in half. I almost cried when that happened, i paid $1200 just for the frame and it was well out of warranty.... Azonic did offer me a new frame for half off though.... I fixed it at work though... Cut a section of seat post, reamed it down inside of the frame to where the break was and then tig welded it... Been riding it like that for 3 years.
