I was looking for some old school parts for my 2008 looptail quadangle. seen an acs doubler for sale, says it doubles the braking power. Never heard of one in my life. how does it work. any photos of it installed??

Re: acs doubler how does it work

ok i found how it works. on 990s where the cable typically goes into the brake the wire goes to the screw, it loops back around to the adjustable screw.. so its like a double wire pulling. if that makes sence..

I went and tore this apart to try and help.  I'll post more pictures once it's installed on the wifes bike.

Re: acs doubler how does it work

The Doubler doesn't work very well, period. The end result is squishy feeling brake pull from the lever.

Re: acs doubler how does it work

i was told that if you paired these with acs boas they would tear your f ing brake bridge to pieces with the amount of stopping power, then another person said they were worthless and you lose braking power.....but acs is pretty well known for their scientific approach to their designs, so i don see why they would put out a useless product............so someone put them on their brakes and see what they do..........i would like to know also

Re: acs doubler how does it work

Here's an early pic of the Doubler on one of Fred Blood's bikes from the pages of Freestylin' magazine. It works off of a pulley system, and while I don't know for sure that it actually "doubles" your braking power, I do know one thing for sure, it creates extra drag that ends up making your brake pull feel really mushy. If you like tight, snappy feeling brakes, I wouldn't recommend you install a Doubler, other than for looks.

I now own the bike in the photo below, and it's still has both the original Doublers on both front and rear brakes. After much adjusting, the brakes work reasonably good, but they they still feel mushy compared to regular brake cable.

Also, the Doubler came with a thicker braided cable that was stronger than regular cable wire, but it also creates extra drag inside the cable housing. Having said all that, you can still find NOS Doubler kits easily and pretty inexpensively, so if you like the look, try one.

Re: acs doubler how does it work

I'm with Raul on this.I've set up 2 bikes with doublers and got the same result.Only difference I could tell was a mushy lever for my trouble.I'm an ACS fan too,but why do you think there are still doublers unsold in the package to be easily found today?Becouse this design didn't work and they couldn't sell them.Same goes for those Hare Trigger levers that Am'e distributed in '81.They didn't work,so they didn't sell.
