If I had to choose a brake, it would be Odyssey Pitbulls. But for the price I'll run bulldogs any day of the week! big_smile

NO bashing Hutch. People forget they were(for the most part)top quality made products !! About the best you could get BITD.
AND made in the usa, for the most part.(at least in the beginning)

also made by Profile and Thruster too...so their quality in the beginning was based on others.  Things they made themselves...Aerospeeds and ofcourse the aluminum frames which broke (lawsuits) are very sought after these days because they are rare in their own right.  However, when they did manufacture for themselves they did do a good job BUT their early reputation for quality was based on other companies.  I bet most of their 1st generation cranks still exist (bet they didn't break).

any peregrine wheels,mainly peregrine superpros

i love them to death, but people seem to think they are made of gold and are super rare or something and its starting to erk me.
THEY MADE A BILLION OF THEM OVER MANY MANY YEARS!!!!
yeah im sure some sets were used good, bent etc etc but that still leaves 10000000 of them.
i dont even want to look at them for the price now.  i keep my eyes open for other wheelsets now

I think superpros are overpriced but only cause they are chrome.  You can still get an awesome set of super nice rider hp 48s for around a hundred bucks all day long.

Re: What do you think are the most OVERvalued bikes and components?

Most overrated?

Topics:

People who cannot TIG weld yet offer constant feedback about what a good weld looks like.
That GT's are now made by Pacific.
People who complain about call outs.
The lack of an edit button.
Lame youtube videos of people opening boxes of parts.
"Score" posts  with pictures of a bent Team Murray frame and $15 worth of chains.

Parts:
The Redline "half wrap, full wrap, quater wrap, triple pinch, ridden by Lance Armstrong's old ball."
CW Phaze One Frame
Hutch Aerospeed cranks

I don't think 7x's are overpriced at all. About $100 for a decent used set...Need a "what do you think is fairly priced" thread for the Araya's

NOS ones is what I meant really. Over $200 for a pair of hoops. Someone can blow their dog!

Re: What do you think are the most OVERvalued bikes and components?

most overvalued/overhyped is without a doubt HUTCH and its impossible to ask this question and not get hutch as a reply.
while they may make some good or even great stuff, none of it is 20 times greater then any other make or model of the same part.
neither is the stuff that rare. everyday you see tons of hutch stuff for sale here and on Ebay. if i did not know better,
i would of thought more non serial hutch frames existed then huffy frames.

and really most things NOS are pretty high priced. it can only be NOS once.

Once again, Supply and Demand my friend...While Hutch stuff may be relatively abundant, so is the Demand. Lots of stuff with lots of dudes willing to pay the price.

I love hutch, but I don't own it. Oh yea I have a sweet layed back post that I scored stuck inside an 83 predator! Maybe one day I'll get it out.

Haro number plates.....especially series one's. They are the best looking plates ever made, so over rated, no. Overpriced, YES.
There were tons around bitd and they were only $13. And they tend to crack.

Aerospeeds were junk, weak fork dropouts on most models, bars were easy to bend , junk overseas pro raiders, the overseas made hutch stem with the hutch sticker is aweful... the seatpost clamps were a friggin doughnut and peeps want like 125 bucks for em used, totally insane, and a owner or 2 that totally ran it into the ground!

por raiders are by far and above one of the better built overseas bikes, and saying overseas bikes are junk is well, pretty silly as from what we can all see they have stood the test of time as good if not better than a lot of "american" made bikes from the same companies....and the owners were americans... so whats your point there?
