1983 Diamond Back II Silver Streak

My dad bought this for me brand new in '83 and was customized by the bike shop with a GT lay-back seat post, black Johar Cal-Lite pads, and ACS Z-Rims. The only things I added bitd was a front brake and a Haro 1B numberplate.  Kept it in the garage since the 80's and hauled it out in 2009 for a clean-up. Only replaced the tires, frame pads, grips, brake cables and seatpost - everything else is original. Swapped out the layback with a straight version because I never really liked the layback look (on this bike). Still need a stem pad to call it done.

FORKS: Original Diamond Back Pro, chromoly
HANDLEBARS: Original Diamond Back, chromoly
STEM: Original Diamond Back, Sugino
GRIPS: replacement F1 Style (Retrospectbmx.com)
RIMS: Original 20" ACS Z-rims
HUBS: Original ACS large flange (still with original decals)
TIRES: Cheng Shin Comp III skinwalls (BMX Guru)
BRAKES: Original Dia-Compe w/Skyway Tuff Pads
LEVERS: Original Dia-Compe Tech 3, front and back
PEDALS: Original SR Custom-M MP-464
CRANK: Original Sugino one-piece
CHAIN: Original D.I.D  black/silver
SEAT: Original Aero
SEAT POST: no-name chromoly (I still have the original GT laid back)
SEAT POST CLAMP: Original SR
PADS: Johar California Lites (Ebay NOS)

Re: 1983 Diamond Back II Silver Streak

That's a classic. The black Z-Rims look perfect on the DB. You're one of the few to still have a bike they had from BITD, don't ever let it go!

WTB: Nothing, unless it's a real cheap local survivor score!

"BICYCLING DON'TS: Stunting, doing wheelies, or 'dirt biking' places stresses on bicycles far above design intentions.
Damage such as broken welds, bent forks, and 'flat spots' on rims will result" -- Breaking all the bicycling rules since 1977.

Re: 1983 Diamond Back II Silver Streak

Agreed, and I may just trade it out with a straight post since I don't ride it anymore.

BITD, I needed the laid back for that extra bit of legroom so I'm glad the bike came with it.

Re: 1983 Diamond Back II Silver Streak

Thanks for the comments guys! I just added a chromoly straight seat post. I wanted chrome and not the fluted black and silver posts that the db's came with. I'm not  really a fan of those.

The reason the laid back looked odd was that the seat guts were upside down. roll

I'll be taking itout for a spin around the block later tonight. You're right TBREAKZ, I gotta ride it once in a while! big_smile

Re: 1983 Diamond Back II Silver Streak

WOW. I had one of these which was stolen when I was at school. Superb example of what Diamond Back did and should be doing today. Unlike my f**ked up Mongoose which gets daily use, (http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/mongoose/30686/), please keep this one on the wall. If you wanna go riding, you can borrow mine, don't destroy this one please.

Re: 1983 Diamond Back II Silver Streak

Straight seat post finishes it off great. Better choice. Something more pure and pretty about an old school like this with clean lines.
Its stunning....dont ever part with it.

Ahhhh....the memories! I had the exact one, and still do in storage, but needs a little tlc to bring back. And after seeing the bikes on here.....it's in my head to do so now! Will try to find and post pics from bitd, and list the uprades as well.

Beautiful!
