Re: I took a trip back in time to a 1983 BMX race shop today!

where are you from bro.  Are there anymore shops like this here in Germany.  LMK because I would love to hit it up

I live in Muelheim Ruhr, North Rhine-Westphalia near Duesseldorf, may be Cologne..... bigger cities in this area....
I think this shop is absolutely unique! I just felt like a kid, reading your post although I know this shop! wink In Germany everybody who is or was interested in BMX stuff knows the Schadowskis.... So, unfortunately, at least I dont know of any other like this...

too many wackos in america man that shop is like the shops we have at disneyland its fantasy to us!! our bike shops have road bikes and mountain bikes by the front door and when you say bmx they all point you to a small section off to the side of the store like the porn section at a video store.then of course everything is top dollar non-negotiable taxed to the teeth and you're lucky to get a "come again".i would love to visit but to leave there without a NOS grail would make me cry and i would feel unsatisfied for the rest of my life lol

Some old german dude just made 50 grown men in the U.S.A. nut themselves.  lmao

If the old adage is true whoever dies with the most/best wins.  The competition is between this dude and sell_his_stuff.

Reading this, I think most people here in Germany have completely false associations!
I always thought, in the US, there are a lot of stores with rare oldschool parts..... Always wanted to go overseas only because of that!!!
Just regarding the bike pictures on this site.... most of those bikes would be just impossible to find in Germany!
Well, at least, now I'm a bit reassured that I probably never will be able to come to your country hmm

Absolutely. I've known Dieter for some time, and he's bought some nice things from me. Rainer's Bike Shop is also now officially one the very first Hutch Authorized Dealers, and will be offering new Hutch product for sale to the European market from his awesome museum/store.

He showed us a couple of his new bear trap pedals he bought from you and he was absolutely excited about them.

MOST of the older people that even have this type of stuff in america have done are doing or going to do the ebay thing!.others are still sitting on it in some old warehouse where the rent has been locked in at low amount because theyve had it for so long and they just have been waiting for "rad 2" so all that stuff will be really hot then it will be time to sell but the grim reaper still after them so sometimes its too late and the kids get it and they sell it on ebay.

John- Dieter showed us your pedals and they where very nice.  He seamed a little disapointed the cages where brushed and not chromed but we where all very impressed with them.  I will be getting a set soon. Nice job on them.  We where also talking about how we can't wait to see you stems.

Deiter was building a black Trickstar for a customer.  It looked fimilar due to a small dent on the gusset.

The originals were polished, not chrome. However, I am expecting samples from my supplier that are true chrome-plated, just to see what they look like. If the cages bend, the chrome will flake. Chrome cages should be reserved for "show" bikes only.

Stems are coming soon. I was machining the top caps last week, and got sidetracked. I will get them back in the CNC machine soon.

There are shops in the good ol u.s.a with basements or attics full of stuff but they are not set up like museums with everything in display.  I have a few bike shops I can call for some old stuff and there's a good chance they will have it.

Have you ever seen the collection that sell_his_stuff had.  It's just as incredible as this guys.  If you were expecting us to have bmx shops in every town with classic stuff for sale sadly that is not the case.  On the other hand you have the ability to view craigslist just like us and likely can score some classic bikes at a deep discount.  They will probably be skeptical of sending it to germany or will likely realize the value of the item once you ask for shipping to germany.  Either way just come to the usa for all the other good stuff like I read in a recent thread by some aussie rider.  He came over met and rode with hoffman then hooked up with mirra then collected a few f/f while he was here.  We do have sick skate/bmx parks in every major city.

Thanks for the update.

I told him to just smooth them out and polish them.  Makes a lot of sence though about the chrome flaking. Most people will be riding them including me.

I had a complete bike shipped to me for 40 bucks priority and a F/F sent to me for 20 bucks priority.  People seem to think shipping is expensive but DStinson and I live on Military bases and shippers only pay shipping to NY (east coast) then it gets on a military plane for free.  I am saying this  in open forum just to get it out there because I've had a hard time in the past with people skeptic about sending to us over here...

I would hope people would understand when you tell them you are stationed there as a soldier in the armed forces but when some german dude calls in broken english asking to have a hutch shipped it might be a different story.
