1984 Yes Titan Dominator

This is my mate's bike - just bought off Ebay @ a bargin price. I told him about this set & funny enough its the same bike he wanted as a kid having seen it in a BMX magazine. Hence here it is. The guy who owned it had it in his loft & never built it up into a full bike - all components are origional, still has plastic covers to protect the bar ends. The bike is very light & comes with minimal flawes. From the serial no. I'm guessing this reads as an 84 (WM3584121)? Any information on "Yes" would be great - I remember seeing loads of Yes helmets in the magazines but don't know much more than that?
Since admin note:
OK, I've been doing some research!! This bike is featured in BMX Action Bike (UK mag) issue 18, May 1984 (I've tracked down a copy so I'll scan the review & post it in due course). I also seen a page scaned from a magazine (Nov 84), in the corner is an advert for "Cranks Cycle Centre" in Acton, London - they are offering the fame kit @ 15% discount priced @ £85.99 (GBP).
Head tube pic now included in gallery.
Any information on Yes BMX would be more than welcome?
Note: Thank you! :)

Re: 1984 Yes Titan Dominator

I saw this on E-bay myself and was going to go after it, but forgot all about it!! I used to buy bits and pieces in cranks in Acton when i was a kid. I did like those Yes bikes BITD i remember most of the places that stocked Yes bikes tended to be motorcycle shops as well. Cranks i believe was half cycle and half motorbike shop? and Motorcycle City was also a main dealer for Yes bikes, i remember going to buy up some boots and shirts there with my mum when they were closing down and they had one of those Titan's in there but no amount of pleading would get my mum to buy for it me!! I'd love to see that baby once it is fully built. Good luck!!

BITD my dad was good mates with the boss of cranks in acton. my dad bought me my first decent bmx a firebird freestyler from them. they built it up for me. after the boss left, he went to run a bike shop in slough, called stows. a rare bike. yes was a short lived company. :|

Re: 1984 Yes Titan Dominator

Many thanks to my BMX bro's for the information - I found that info from a magazine, love the fact you guys can remember this era & the bike shop in question.
As stated, this is my mates bike, who does plan to build it up & cruise around on (dry sunny days only) - I think he's going for a solid black & gold look with a hint of chrome - if he sells it I'll defo buy it!!

Wow that looks fantastic. It would be great to see this finished, especially out in the sun (with no rain). One of a kind.

Re: 1984 Yes Titan Dominator

Any updates on this bike? I've got an '83 Yes cruiser and it's been almost impossible to find anything on them. I remember Yes racing from when I was a kid but it was a long time ago!! If you find anything out or ever see any decals let me know as the stickers on mine were so rough I had to rip them off unfortunately...saying that they were a bit lame but a Yes decal needs to go on it somewhere someday!
Cheers!

Or no snow, or no sheets as a backdrop, or not in front of some stupid graffiti'ed up wall!

Re: 1984 Yes Titan Dominator

Hi,

A quick search in Google on Yes BMX landed me here!

My first BMX was a Yes Competition purchased from my local bike shop in Upper Tean, Staffordshire probably in 1983.  A friend of mine bought a Yes 2400 Cruiser from the same shop around the same time.

The Yes Competition was at the bottom of the regular BMX range followed by the Yes Supercold.  The top end model was called the Yes Aero, there may have been others.  I seem to remember there being a Mini but I can't remember the Titan.  Maybe it came before or after I got mine.

I can confirm the Motorcycle link - I joined a Yes fan club by filing out a card that came with my bike.  I was sent catalogs, posters etc.  Yes was also making Motocycle clothing - leather jackets, trousers etc.

Re: 1984 Yes Titan Dominator

I had one of these in the late 80's - chrome

I have 2 photo's of it somewhere but from memory it had.

Blue Mongoose Superclass rims (sealed hubs)
Comp 3 tyres (1.5 instead of 2.25 & 1.75)
Mx 1000 brakes with 1 finger pulls
Redline V bars with Sharp XC 1.11 grips
GT Saddle
Tioga layback post (with strut)
Tioga 1 piece crank
Sugino 44t chainwheel
Tioga powerdisc spider
Tioga sealed BB
SG pedals (not beartraps but the ones fitted to high end Raleigh's)

The bike was only available as a f&f and i distinctly remember an interview with one of their ex pro's ( a black guy who may have been Gary someone but was NOT Tommy Brackens)  who complained that (and i remember this distinctly) "Yes treated me like a kid and didn't give me anything"

Sadly in 89 i went into the Merchant Navy and my mum GAVE this bike to my young cousin (as i recall it cost £250 of my paper round money to build). it was near mint when he got it and i saw it 2 years later and it was a f***ing wreck!!!.

Chrome was pitted and rusting in places, brakes & wheels were all scratched etc

It honestly broke my heart.

Now a mere 22 years later i STILL mention it to him at family get togethers and even said to his fiance "i hope you don't give anything of value to him because you're going to be in for some heartache"

If anyone has one of these for sale please contact me on this forum as i would definately be interested

Re: 1984 Yes Titan Dominator

What bars - if any - came on these bikes. Or was it just frame and forks?
