Re: Online Poll -- Best GT Performer ever

the only gt performers worth collecting are the very first non stamped top tube 1984 version, preferably in yellow. after that gt started mass producing them and really cheapened them up.

come on guys when you could buy these things new for 189 dollars complete how nice could they have been? they are one step above department store bikes.

Re: Online Poll -- Best GT Performer ever

No kidding, my 87 PFT team model was $600.. back in 1987 that's a hell of a lot money.. I don't know how mass produced they were that year but I sure didn't see very many of them on the road.

i don't remember any gt even close to that kind of money. the hutch pro star was 699.99 and that was the highest priced bike bitd. gt's didn't even have three piece cranks.

I paid $498.18 for my 88 pft team model.  I still have the receipt.  The team model came with 3 piece power series crank.

I think most of your pre 99 gts are going to be the collectable ones

Re: Online Poll -- Best GT Performer ever

Well maybe this bike shop overcharged, but the regular 87 PFT was $500, chrome version was $550 and you had to add $100 to either version for the Team Model with the Pro Series 3 piece cranks.  I remember they also charged $450 for Haro Masters at the time.  So maybe they were a little overpriced.

Re: Online Poll -- Best GT Performer ever

I'm pretty sure you are right Slicer.  I bought mine at the end of the model year discounted.  They told me I could get a standard 89 or they had a couple of left over 88 teams for the same price.

I know, I'm not sure if he was just trying to stir things up.. this thread is not a debate on prices, it's a poll and a "show & tell" for Performer owners.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about!!!  That is killer looking, one of the best 85's I've seen.

By the way, who makes that seat? I've been looking forever to find an 87 GT seat in decent condition, maybe I'll just use one of those, they seem to be the same seat.

Re: Online Poll -- Best GT Performer ever

Duke 01: I dig the 98-99 frame, I'm considering picking up a 1999 Tour 2 that I've come across, when I get done with my two 87 PFT builds I want to keep them pristine, so I want a bike that I can actually ride and slam on.

i agree with this man here. in my hood GT stood for "got took" or "ghetto trash". everybody and their brother had some variation of the damn thing and it was boring to see a couple dozen of them a day. you didnt get any style points for riding one where i grew up, you just looked like any other wasp from the swarm. sorry to you guys because i know some of you are going to be mad. not my intention at all, but i have caught hell before for my opinion of the brand. lets face it, the current models arent even worth the box they get shipped in. wasted money to buy one.

Re: Online Poll -- Best GT Performer ever

yea my issue isnt import vs domestic. alot of imports are very nice!  when i talk to pro riders that ride for GT not using GT componets, the awnser is obvious. some people have even speculated that some of those same riders dont even really ride GT frames. they ride another brand with GT decals on it.that part i cant confirm. but the parts part of the story i can. many even openly admit it.

Re: Online Poll -- Best GT Performer ever

Again.. while I respect your opinions of GT bikes as a whole, this thread is to get the opinion of Performer owners to find out which years you thought were good and which were not so good.. If you wish to debate whether or not GT sucks, let's discuss this in another forum.

+1

I don't like the looks of the new GT/Pacific bmx bikes & parts either, but really, i don't think that are totally junk..
GT Team riders used to ride original GT bicycles before the bankruptcy (before the year 2001-2002) wink

I really liked the S-bend GTs and the late 90's ones, with the slightly bent top tube.
