2009 SE Racing Big Ripper 29
2009 SE Racing Big Ripper 29
Big Ripper Retro Style Polished Aluminum, Red, Black & Chrome. READY TO RIDE!
The Big Ripper in black is cool, but I needed something more retro...
These bikes are so cool I wanted to really get it the way I always wanted.
Polished Frame.
Chromed fork
Polished Seat Post, Retro BMX Lightning Bolt seat
Anodized red hubs, rims, powder coat candy red spokes, seat post clamp, and valve caps
Polished & Anodized Retro BMX stem, Chris King headset
Custom Red/White Stickers *I think the white outline makes them pop more on chrome
, Chrome SE Cranks, Profile Imperial Sprocket
knock-off bear trap pedals
Old school SE cruiser bars re-chromed
Black SE grips Red SE bar ends Red Grip doughnuts
Now I need someone to come out with "29" red snakebelly tires!
More pics of bike along with all things 29 on this thread.

Awesome...!!!
In the 80's, I was riding the streets with Eric (Hutch), Jamie (GT), Jody (JMC), & Ronnie (Diamond Back). North Hollywood, CA to The Teen Center in Van Nuys, CA. The best LBS was The Pedal Shop, where I bought my first & only JMC frame, forks, & parts for my very first build...

SICK!
Exactly what SE should consider doing with a future model!
The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "save us"...
And I'll look down and whisper "no".

Re: 2009 SE Racing Big Ripper 29
wow...like the new photos...funny as I have been doing my Lil Ripper red & chrome the last month and a half or so. Actually have been spray painting some parts anodized red to keep it ol' school. That's how we kids did it back in the days...hardware store spray paint and clear coat...lol. I only have a couple more things to get (Tall Bars, and maybe red tires...saving pennies)...then will hopefully have new pics of my Lil Ripper up within a couple of months...definitely not as hot as your Big Ripper project.

Re: 2009 SE Racing Big Ripper 29
There is spray paint on this one... i had the brake lever anodized but it came out terrible... so I just spray painted it black... I didn't know anodizing only looks as good as the aluminum the part is made from.

Re: 2009 SE Racing Big Ripper 29
Krylon makes a spray metallic base coat that is specific for the Krylon anodized spray paint (both are for metal surfaces). You might need a metallic base coat before spraying the anodized paint. Otherwise the anodized color won't show up. The metallic coat also helps all the parts match. Auto paint supply stores might have some sort of metallic base coat also?? I know they sell good clear coat for $20 a can. I just used the Krylon clear coat which was only about $6-$7.
For the VP Pedal cages I painted (Looks kinda like yours) . First I striped the paint with Jasco (to the kids...get parents help...Jasco is nasty stuff), did a little 400 grit sanding, cleaned the parts with simple green, wiped down with rubbing alcohol, Krylon metallic base coat (baked in 80 degree sun for about 20 minutes...helps to make the paint stick better without chipping), Krylon Anodized Red (baked in the sun...15-20 min...again better stick), Krylon clear coat (baked in the sun)...did a few coats of each. Actually came out pretty nice. Next time I am going to hang the parts from string or wire as some parts got stuck to newspaper or wood when drying.

I would , polished aluminum is high maintance , i had my R1 frame ,swing arm and wheels done and it was a bitch to keep clean - YES it does shine/look better than chrome but it will pit if unprotected . Try and contact SE and find out what they did to the 08 Rippers and get it done ASAP

Sweet mother of all things big and small...that's just awesome. I have a Big Ripper, and love the menacing black, but this? Over the top cool...

I know Me either!I'm stoked someone raised the bar on the Big Rips!
Ok,I've heard both ways about polishing.
An R1 is a streetbike/motorcycle right?
If so thats gonna have alot more 'damage' done to the finish. You have to factor in all that speed, roadkill, dust:it damages a bike.
I personally dont think a bicycle is gonna have that much to go thru.
Keep it clean, wipe it off once a week and I dont see a problem.
And I mean no disrespect MADDAWG.

Re: 2009 SE Racing Big Ripper 29
None taken BONEz' a couple more examples -
My buddies {aluminum} bars and wheels ( on an 08 Cannondale ) started pitting on his bike this winter AND THE BIKE SHOP SAID condensation in his garage mind you he parked it in Oct.
I bought a Redline from Cali. a couple of yrs. ago it had rust and aluminum was pitting - The owner told me it was from the sea water ( in the air ).
My R1 was a motorcycle and it slept in my living room ( befor i was married ) and i always washed her down ( once a week ) and polished the aluminum so it wouldnt leave water spots lots of work and still had to BUFF it lightly once a month to acheive the deepest shine and still seemed to pitt on me .
Dont get me wrong polished aluminum shines deeper and is more brilliant than chrome - you cant beat the shine but it requiers high/regular maintenance to keep the shine ,since protective coating has been removed .

Re: 2009 SE Racing Big Ripper 29
I don't think my 2008 Lil Ripper came with a factory clear coat? Seems to be just polished? I recently bought some Brasso to polish some areas that was missed at the factory near the BB. Never used Brasso before on aluminum. Any feedback on polishing techniques...I was thinking of buying one of those 6"-10" dia. electric polishers from local auto supply store.

I live in the desert,so its either hot or hotter!
