Post your "know what makes me nuts???" rant here

What makes me positively batsh**insane is trying to assemble the undercarriage (guts) on an old school BMX seat. Maybe I have big hands or something. Jesus.

Just wanted to say that. neutral

cappy, im with you on the big hands thing. ive got big fingers, and putting the washer in the bottom of the brake bridge, and trying to get the nut stararted without the washer bailing and bouncing off the wheel, and rolling approximately 4 feet away, is the thing that drives me crazy.

haha

when my wife says something about my cars, boats, bikes, guns, or whatever i got or am doing, i just say -
'its less then then number of shoes you have'

works every time big_smile

one thing that rubs me wrong sometimes is how one brand can fetch 10 times the money over another brand when its not any better.
i just read the prices and shake my head. it reminds me of the soccer moms mentality over a elmo toy.

but what grinds my gears are attached chains. i mean come on !!!!! a chain breaker is about 3 bucks at wal mart..
you always get them so flipped and twisted, it takes forever to get that messed untangled.

Re: Post your "know what makes me nuts???" rant here

It was a rich kid sport/hobby back then and it still is today. Another thing that bothers me is the parting out of survivors, or the calling DIBS on parts before the seller has gotten any posts on buying it whole.

jf, really do you think that? Me and all my pals were all from working class families. We were each bought one bike from our folks (mostly Mongooses), and the customizing came from scrimping together paper route money. No one was handed a PK Ripper or anything in my 'hood. You begged, borrowed, and stole. Can't speak to the kids today...

I do feel that way, I too came from a working class family and we got a dept. store bike, and I too had to scrimp/save, and steal to upgrade that bike. But as far as today goes, I still have to scrimp, save, and look for scores. I can't justify paying some of these prices for f/f, pedals and grips that they are going for these days.

People that complain about prices. Yes, things are expensive. Yes, some people have more money than others, doesnt mean they are "stupid" for spending what they do on stuff. Enough with the jealousy and whatnot.

Re: Post your "know what makes me nuts???" rant here

yeah you know I'm trying to figure out how your post fits in, here. You're saying it ticks you off that your folks could only afford a dept, store bike and things are still out of your price range?

I mean if everything was in everyone's price range in a collectible market, by definition they wouldn't be collectible tongue

I think I'm mis-reading what you mean.

Re: Post your "know what makes me nuts???" rant here

Fork Bearing races...

why don't they ever fit right???
Grrr.  it's like there was no industry standard size.. you had to just pray your headset will fit a different bike's fork.

.... then once you finally dig up a race that will fit the fork, it rarely will match the contour of the bearing that came with the rest of the headset....

this is one issue I often run into, while building up my OS bikes...

I try to keep as many spare headset parts around for this reason..
But - many times - this has added hours of trouble shooting to some of my builds.

It's so frustrating.

people who; mis-represent their for sale items, put their seat guts on upside down or backwards, force the wrong size part (usually a seatpost) into a frame,  ask my opinion and then tell me theirs, paint their valuable o/s frame sparkly colours for their kids, the danish make me nuts, the french make me nuts, people who label themselves dog/cat people make me nuts...i could go on

I think you might be, I never said I was ticked off about my parents buying me a dept. store bike. I was really appreciative and wish I still had it. As far as collectible stuff goes, I understand the market/demand determines their value. I have nothing against people spending whatever they want for something (owl), but I personally would not, not out of jealousy, just what I can justify spending. But really $500+ for a pair of Hutch grips is silly, but that's just my opinion, and ya know what they say about opinions wink
