Re: 1982 Kuwahara 24

Kuwahara had 2, count them, TWO Cruiser Frames. big_smile

It is not a Cycle Pro they have a lower chainstay bridge. It is not  any other brand.

I also see 2, count them, two different styles of the Kuwahara cruiser bars.
Both made by WIN.

If you really believe only one frame was made, then the T3xxxx serial number, 5 inch head tube, flat brake bridge, thick rear drops, NO gusset frames, are TANGE Bikes.
NOT Kuwahara's, NOT Cycle Pro's, Not Schauf's, or ProSights and definately not Murray made, rejected SE Racing products rolllol

Re: 1982 Kuwahara 24

I dont believe that. The "Early" Kuwahara frame, I have seen marketed under other brands. Whereas the 5' HT/Flat brake bridge etc etc frame, I have never seen marketed as anything else but a Kuwahara.

There are three companies who sold this frame in slightly different executions:

I can only assume Kuwahara wanted to sell some Cruisers and therefore used the Cycle Pro ones and just relabled them before they got their own with the above mentioned changes in 1983 from Tange.

Just to let you Guys know. The Factory Catalog of the Model Range for all 1982 Kuwahara Models shows very clearly the little gusset between the down tube and the Head tube on the Kuwahara 24 inch Cruiser. This document came directly from the Kuwahara factory and was given to the US distributor showing every 1982 model with every component with photos.

The Kuwahara 24 for 1982 had the gusset.

Where can we see this catalog? neutral
I know the gussett 24 was in AU.
I really think the one without the gussett is the oddball of the lineup. tongue
If you go to the Kuwahara section in bikes here, the 24 at the top is a fine example of what is right. tongue  lol
It is an '82 T2E1560, and it is right behind me hanging on the wall.  wink

Well, show me some concrete proof. I have yet to see it. The only Kuwahara cruiser I have seen in a catalog is the 5" head tube frame set, with double dropouts, and flat brake bridge. I'm not saying there *isn't*. I just haven't seen proof. This AU catalog hopefully shows the proof.

You quote the Tange frame, and yes, it looks similar. But it is different. No double thickness dropouts, and a tubular brake bridge. If you put Tange decals on my frameset, then I would see a Kuwahara 24 frameset, with Tange decals.

I'm curious to see the other version of Kuwahara cruiser bars. Do you have photos or a link?

As for the 83, well if you believe the white one at the top of the Kuwahara page is correct, so be it. If you go to Jamies Kuwahara site, all the cruisers on that site look a lot different to that (and they are 83's), smile Are these generic "Tange" frames, not Kuwahara's? http://www.dreamgate.ne.jp/kuwahara/rid … bikes.html

Also, check under his catalog section. It shows a 1983 Kuwahara 24 complete. With the same frame shown, as per the bikes in his cruiser section.

Re: 1982 Kuwahara 24

Early bars right here post #1 and #6. big_smile
Next gen right here, post #22, you may find those familiar. wink
You point out the differences in the Tange 24 and your 24. smile
You don't distinguish the differences in the KU 24 and the Cycle Pro 24. sad

The one in the bikes section is not correct?????

Re: 1982 Kuwahara 24

Ok... Ref the above pic (sorry for the low res but I'm overseas and can't access my hi-res scans).

This is the page from the Catalog sent from the Kuwahara Factory to the US Distributor for Kuwahara (Howie Cohen).
The Catolog shows all the build spec and pics of the 1982 Kuwahara Model Range.

So this document came from the Kuwahara Factory even with prices in Yen.
It is for the 1982 Kuwahara Range.
It clearly shows the gusset on the 24 inch Cruiser frame.
This document showed all the range for 1982 including KZ-1, KZ-2, 26inch Cruiser, all three ET Models, KYZ, Tandem etc.

Can you argue with an original Kuwahara Factory produced document?

I have no doubt some of you will try!!!!!

I cant see the document (link wont work through the internet here at work sad ) but thats cool. Finally proof of a 1982 Kuwahara 24. Like I said, I dont doubt it, but was keen to see proof, and there it is.

Re: 1982 Kuwahara 24

You mean proof of a Kuwahara 24 with a gusset, right?? tongue big_smile

You will also need to know that Cycle Pro was the copier here, not Kuwahara.
Cycle Pro had the cheap stuff.....cheap tires, cheap grips, cheap headsets, cheap seats, etc. A real comparison would be Fuan.

No, just a 1982 Kuwahara 24 frame, predating the next Kuwahara 24 frame.

If the Cycle Pro comment was aimed at me, it shouldn't be. I never said they were Cycle Pro frames, but Tange frames. And I agree, mine is a Tange made frame too. Tange made, but only ever decaled as a Kuwahara. The Tange frame with the large head tube in one of the previous links is a different frame. Different dropouts, different brake bridge, and different forks. I've mentioned this before, but it is ignored.

The frame on Rainers site (http://www.rainers-bike-shop.com/sites_us/rahmen.html), marked as the Tange MX 24, which is the Tange 24 frame mentioned previously, is one of these frames. It is different to the 1983 Kuwahara 24 frame.

Re: 1982 Kuwahara 24

Small differences but the same geometry, I think is what has already been said about the Tange with no gusset.
Man that Tange does look like it has a long head tube.
The dropouts all look the same from the side to me.
The TRX aero/oval forks, are what I have on both of my Kuwahara 24's. Same used on the 20" '83 Laser Lite.
So I guess yours are more like a Tange 1200 fork, round not aero shaped, mcam?

My forks are larger diameter tubing, but round. Like a KZ1/KZ2 fork. In fact, they look just like a KZ fork.

Yes, when I was enquiring about the Tange frame head tube, they said it was 6 inches long, which looks about right. I was just out in the garage looking at my 24. The Tange frame rear triangle bends look different too. And the dropouts are definitely different. More like the 84 Kuwahara frames.

Re: 1982 Kuwahara 24

big_smile Well there it is, Thanks Gooser!  I have been looking for this proof for oh 5-6 years now...  Over the years people have told me that my frames were not Kuwi, but I'd argue the point without much proof, just my own .05 cent research, but there it is. Wow!

I still have one chrome 1982 4" gusseted frame set with OG decals, which can be seen under (my bikes), I also have a 5" headtube 1983 model and a 1986 5" headtube model with "v" brakes...  I love Kuwahara cruisers but the gusseted model is cool to me because it is less known, even amongst gurus... So give your 4" ht a hug tonight.. smile

Gooser could you please post a pic of the 26" Kuwahara BMX and if anyone has one please contact me! I will trade one of my kidneys. Oh and is there any information about a Kuwahara pit bike 16"  tongue I have a set of nos Kuwahara pit bike forks!

Re: 1982 Kuwahara 24

Yes finally a conclusion. I purchased one of these gussetted 24" in the hope it was a Kuwahara cruiser.
Mine is serial# T2E1614 and was 1st purchased from a bike shop in Sydney, Australia.
It's got no bracket behind BB a round brake bridge and has the floval type fork. Also has Suntour powerstem and ALPS cruiser bars all from original purchase. big_smile

There is a story in OZ of one that had a flat spot wheel in the rear. The customer took it in to a shop for appraisal of $200.00 to fix it.........he dropped it in the the trash down the street from the shop and someone from the shop now owns it. I have seen it at show pictures. Maybe it I pictured it here, yet ya' know
