1980 Mongoose Motomag

NOS 1980 Mongoose Frameset w/original box.

This is my mint NOS 1980 Red Mongoose frame and fork set with the original box. It's called the Mongoose "Sub Assembly A". It also came with a really nice "Gold" factory stamped headset. I've only heard of one other BMX Products NOS frameset like this with the original box. It was a 1981 Blue "Moosegoose" and was sold some time ago. As far as I know, this is the oldest and possibly the only NOS Chatsworth made Mongoose frameset with the OG box still in existence. It's a sweet time capsule going on 30 years old.

It's funny, but most people think I only collect frames when they see those pics, especially when I post my new "Wall Rack" which is where they all hang now... The NOS Red Frameset is the only one that has never been built up so far. That pic I posted in the Museum of the NOS Red Mongoose Frameset was taken before I built my wall mounted frame rack.

I actually love building up different frames, messing around on them for a while and then taking them apart again. I basically have around 20 full bikes I can put together at any given time. After a while it's pretty easy to assemble any given one in under an hour or so. I can mix and match and experiment depending on my mood. I have what I call the "27 Basic Parts" for every single frame. I posted that parts list around here somewhere a while back...

The "Wall Rack":

Some of the different builds that I've done and sometimes change up:

http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh73/mongoosedrummer/DSC06840.jpg

My original collection started off pretty much like this:

http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh73/mongoosedrummer/DSC03125.jpg

After a year or so, it turned into this (photo effect courtesy of Photobucket - tongue):

After a few good fights with my gorgeous wife... She limited my collection to 20 (I'm slightly over that... tongue) and she demanded that I organize everything and not take up the entire garage floor all the time. So, now I have most everything mounted on the wall in hanging racks and the rest of the small parts in a few bins. It's much easier to access everything and takes up very little space considering there are at least 20 frames and all the parts to go with them.

Re: 1980 Mongoose Motomag

I love that frame set. I would love to come across an NOS frame set in blue; that is what I went to buy when I ended up buying my 80 nickel.

If your wife don’t like all the bikes, the offer is still good to take one of your 75 frames off of you. I’m up to 80+ bikes and my wife hasn’t said a word. big_smile "Yet"

I'm looking for a clean 1975 Mongoose (long) frame, and a nice original finish Mongoose Two/Four

Re: 1980 Mongoose Motomag

Seems like the 70's bikes are dying off in interest/popularity... Especially the early and mid 70's bikes... Oh well, I'm bumpin' to keep them thumpin'!!! Haha! wink
