1988 Mongoose Mini Californian

Brand New Survivor

This is a brand new 1988 Mongoose Mini Californian. I found it still in the original box, but robbed of some of its parts. It was missing the wheels, tires, stem, pedals and brake/lever. I had a set of NOS Mongoose Pro Class 20x1-3/8" wheels, a set of modern Cheng Shin tires, a NOS Primo Mini-XL stem (may not have ever made it to production, never seen one before), a NOS Dia-Compe MX brake lever, a NOS Dia-Compe road/mini BMX brake, a set of modern VP Beartrap pedals, and a perfectly matching NOS padset that I randomly had laying around (what are the odds of that?)

Re: 1988 Mongoose Mini Californian

Wow, your bike is clean!!! I remember my cousin got one for his 9th or 10th birthday. He wanted to start racing and showed up one day with one of these. He had a hard time pedalling it,  I'm sure parts of it was no leg strength. Although I do remember the gearing 16/43 or 42 and 165mm cranks, correct me if I'm wrong. We swapped in some longer cranks, 170mm suginos and a 40 or 41 tooth sprocket, and I want to say a point 5 wheelset8. It greatly improved the bike and he raced a season at beginner, we even took him to several state races, he got smoked a lot but had a good time. Last time I saw his bike the wheels were gone and it was sitting under an oak tree rotting away. I tried buying it but couldn't make it happen.
