Re: GT Performer color matching

My mixxing tints can`t make Haro colors. I tried and came close but not close enough to offer. I`d like to try again though. Hutch pink? USA or Japan? I did this in USA Hutch pink last week. I shot this pic in the garage, bad lighting.

Here is a better shot with better lighting.

Re: GT Performer color matching

alot of the older bikes are painted so finding that exact color can be hard ..if your trying for a real restoration i would assume youd want to paint the bike like the factory did ..im pretty sure alot of the early gt,s are painted ..you can tell by how easily they strip ..any good painter should be able to match the exact color you bring him ..

too bad so sad ..

i did and it came out great.only real difference is the factory didn't use a primer coat and it is a possibility they baked the paint a little to speed up the drying process.the factory didn't primer nothing i think thats why we all had rust spots as kids.even some bikes i had as a kid never saw rain or water had rust coming up from the easily scratchable surfaces.i understand why people powdercoat now to get some durability and protection.

Re: GT Performer color matching

The GT light blue is slightly different then the RAL code powder . I had that manufactured to match an NOS sample we had.
I also have all Hutch colors manufactured in powder from NOS samples
All Haro colors up to '88
All Redline colors up to '86
None of these have a stock code because they were custom manufactured for us. We do use the RAL code for GT purple and green, only from certain manufactures because they can vary from different sources.

Re: GT Performer color matching

A lot of older bikes like Mongoose, Hutch, JMC, GT / Dyno and many others were powdercoated originally.

well that would explain why theres no primer but would it just come with stripper like paint?

Re: GT Performer color matching

azfun, I have Day Glow codes but it`s not worth doing unless you`re doing more than one just to recoparate some money. It`s cheaper to get it powder than to paint it yourself. I`m doing a Day Glow pink and orange this month only because I have some floresents left even though I had to buy some. My codes are Dupont. I start in the Spectramaster book.
Aleks, Brian P sent me his NOS grey forks to match. I matched it perfect!!!! Thanks for the offer though.

Re: GT Performer color matching

Lou, is there a way I can get a sample of that grey to see if it matches what I have? That way if it doesn't, I can try to get a matching powder to have it redone?

Chip,

If you have all the Haro colors up to '88 I'm wondering if you can help me.  I need the bars and stem coated to match the front red/coral color of the bike below.  I found the bars and correct racing stem but they were blue.  Had them coated local and they aren't really even close now.

Re: GT Performer color matching

I had the haro coral matched to the color used on the Masters, also the red. It's hard to tell which color you have in the pics.
The Candy blue used on the Hutches was originally sprayed over chrome plating, and Zinc plating for red. The blue had a metal flake added.
GT day glow pink is a thread in itself, but originally was done with powder. I have been able to match it, but it's not a color most shops can get right without several tries and real good equipment. Possibly the most dificult color I have had to deal with.

Re: GT Performer color matching

Metallic added to the kandy? Like micro flake? Thats a powder in a cup. You know car paint Chip, possibly a House of Color type?
I agree with the Day Glow pink but I bet it`s more pain in the azz to do in paint in powder. lol. Thats why i stop doing those.
Chip, I`ll be contacting you in a few days for a favor smile
