1981 Hutch Pro Racer

This is a replica of the first bike Tim Judge rode when he signed on as a Factory Hutch rider.

1981 Hutch X-Long Pro Tim Judge Replica
The coolest parts of this project turned out to be the fact that I was able to discuss this bike in detail with Tim Judge himself. Over the past 3+ years I have phoned him and sent him numerous e-mails regarding the actual components. Verifying colors (unfortunately, almost all of the pics available are black and white), asking about processes that Hutch used, why he chose the components he did, etc. Tim was extremely helpful with the process. Anyway, here is TJ’s very first bike as a factory rider for Hutch:
* FRAME: 1981 Profile-made Hutch X-long Pro ‘drilled brake bridge’ 19.5” top tube. Original finish/Original or NOS decals
* FORK: Hutch
* HANDLEBARS: Redline V
* NUMBER PLATE: Haro Type 2 w/ Haro black ‘oval’ applied
* NUMBER PLATE DECALS: Haro ‘gay’ logo and Haro #2
* GRIPS: Oakley 3
* STEM: Redline
* RIMS: Araya 7X
* SPOKES: .080 stainless steel
* HUBS: Dura Ace
* BRAKES: Dia Compe MX1000 (caliper dated 1981, cable dated 1980)
* BRAKE PADS: Kool Stop 1st Gen
* BRAKE LEVER: Dia Compe Prebent
* TIRES: Comp 3 Yellow Labels (fat/skinny)
* PEDALS: MKS BM-1 (mistakenly listed them as BM-10 pedals in BMXA) Chromed just as Mr. Judge said his were originally
* CRANKS: Hutch 1st Gen (Profile-made, complete with original fully-splined spindle, sealed BB, spacers, washers, and fasteners. Button head crank arm bolts used for accuracy)
* SPIDER: 1st Gen Profile spider made specifically for 1st Gen Hutch cranks (130bcd) Spray painted black.
* CHAIN RING: 45T Shimano (mistakenly listed as a 44T according to TJ)
* FREEWHEEL: Suntour17T
* SEAT: Kashimax
* SEAT POST: Hutch (original Hutch post with the required decal applied)
* SEAT CLAMP: Suntour
* PADS: Hutch 1st Gen

Re: 1981 Hutch Pro Racer

actually, I asked him about his upcoming schedule for his racing team (they travel all over the U.S.) and I was hoping he would make a stop in Michigan/Ohio in the Summer. I'd like him to see the bike in person.

Just waiting to hear back from him....

Re: 1981 Hutch Pro Racer

Words evade me at this moment.  I'm done.  No more builds for me because nothing I do can ever compare to something like this even though I don't build show bikes.

This bike takes the cake.  Rare, flawless top o' the line build and a Judge Replica.  Timmy Judge was my fav when on Hutch and JMC... and this bike is now my all time fav on this site.

Simply excellent.

Re: 1981 Hutch Pro Racer

I'm not rich. It took me years to find all the parts for it. But thanks I think...

Re: 1981 Hutch Pro Racer

Yes by all means I was being positive. In photo's I love  to research the "background" details so I can get some idea of how a person lives. By all accounts you have alot of nice things going on "back" there. But in all honestly.... it's hard to notice,  when in the foreground, is such a sweet ride.
